I just want to quickly grab your
attention but the truth is I didn’t
always have the courage to just lie down
I remember my first time actually like
it was yesterday and with my girlfriend
at the time in beautiful Athens Greece
on a very sunny afternoon and over a
very busy street actually and we were
talking and was we were walking I was
telling her how fearless I was and how I
was the man and how I was so powerful
because that I could do anything at any
point and nothing scared me and there
were a lot of people around us and I was
like here I can just lie down here and
you know the people around us they don’t
scare me I can just do it and guess what
she told me do it and I was like what
tell me lie down you said you could do
it let me get back to you on this one
eventually she pushed me into it and I
lay down and that fearless man that I
thought I was that powerful creature
vanished I’ve never been more terrified
than my entire life and at that moment I
did it for five seconds and I couldn’t
hold any more just stood up I was so
terrified I was terrified what the
people around were thinking I was
terrified of the laughters of the
awkwardness in the air of the policemen
who were trying to kind of talk to me
and arrest me and I could only hold it
for five five seconds and when I stood
up I felt so good I felt so free
actually
because I didn’t really care what they
thought of me but at the same time I
felt defeated because I only did it for
five seconds I let my fear get over me
and looking back at it I started
thinking I was like okay what did I
learn from it and I learned that I
wanted to get better I wanted to
actually have that power where I’m not
scared of what other people think of me
where I’m fearless and powerful so I got
pretty hungry and I decided to become
pretty good at it pretty good at the art
of laying on the street
so I started doing it all the time
virtually everywhere in railway stations
and shopping malls and big platters in
schools and hospitals I would just be
walking with my friends and I would
start all that well that’s a wonderful
place they were like for what I would
just lie my back too like what are you
doing getting out of my comfort zone I
would say they were like we don’t really
know your height that’s fine no problem
and I would get up and I would feel
really good and slowly I grew and it
came to the point where I could lie down
anywhere at any point without really
caring what other people thought of me
and as I looked at it backwards I
started asking myself why did I want to
get good at laying down on the street
why did I want to get better and in
general terms why do we all want to get
better why do we want to have a better
job better grades better life according
to Tony Robbins one of the best coaches
out there he believes that progress
equals happiness and every time we’re
advancing towards something that matters
to us we feel good we feel happy but the
challenge is that happiness is not
simply given to us we must reach for it
outside of our comfort zones but by our
by our nature were programmed to stay
inside our comfort zones were programmed
to stay comfortable we program to stay
safe and secure and every time we make
the leap to kind of leave the comfort
zone and go into our danger zone our
bearings are kind of like what are you
doing it’s dangerous over there you’re
going to kill us what you know what just
take a lot of fear so that you don’t
even move and the moment you’re about to
leave you’re like okay should probably
go watch some Netflix you’re right and
we end up not taking that leap of faith
we end up not going forward we end up
not getting better and we stay
comfortable and we stay safe and we stay
secure but what’s the point of living a
life like that
because you see nothing magical ever
happens inside our comfort zone so the
heroes of our generations will be those
who slowly will start teaching
themselves how to shut off their brains
feel the fear and go for it anyways and
thank the Lord that most of us are
actually able to do that for a little
while because you see we have this so
called
microwave mentality
where we want it now we want to get
healthy now we want to get rich now we
want the best job now not all the time
but the challenge is that nothing
worthwhile comes now but of course once
again in a world is changing faster than
ever where everything’s become a quicker
more efficient instant messaging instant
food isten this instant coffees and
everything our brain starts adapting
that philosophy and we start thinking
that we can change faster than ever but
that’s not the case and no wonder
because human beings are creatures of
habits and habits are influenced by
environment and an environment is
changing more rapidly we start thinking
that we can change more rapidly and most
of you are exactly like me where I would
set these really big goals of how I
wanted to get rich I wanted to get this
degree in that job and this and that and
I would look really fit like Arnold and
I will set this really big action plan
which was way outside of my comfort zone
and that had to use so much motivation
to get it done and I would go home I
will click on a few motivational videos
that we get fired up Jack out of my
brains oh my god and then I’ll click on
another video and I will get even more
fired up Jack oh my god I’m going to
change my life and then I’m going to
computer and I would create the best
study progress workout program for the
next 12 months on exactly which body
part I was going to workout and when and
how exactly after twelve months I was
going to be so fit and I would buy the
best gym membership and the best outfit
and the best nutrition plan and I will
hit the gym once I will hit the gym
twice I will hit the gym three times and
the fourth time I would wake up and life
would just punch me the face now that oh
maybe not today and not today became not
tomorrow and not tomorrow became not
this week and obviously became not this
month and not this month became never
and I would give up my commitment hold
together just two or three weeks n
because you see a set of target that was
so far outside of my comfort zone which
was impossible for me to do on a
consistent basis I had to rely on
motivation to get it done but motivation
always always runs out and when it runs
out we burnout and I kept burning out
over and over and over and over again
and whenever I would look for solutions
because everyone around me seemed to
have the same problem I would read the
books I would listen to the motivational
guru
and the success speakers and the
professors and the teachers and
everybody said the same thing just do it
just do it practice and I was like what
just do it they were like yeah hmm so
you’re telling me that every single
person who made something out of his
lives if we just did it they were like
yes everyone just did it I was like okay
well that doesn’t seem to be too true
because if that’s the case you would all
be living by the beach playing with
candy west ping-pong and chasing crabs
like there must be another way come on
it’s not just do it and I kept
researching I kept looking for answers
and eventually I did discover that there
is another way I realized that we could
change the default programming over
heads over minds from microwave
mentality to oven mentality that we
could change from cooking in two minutes
very quickly to things that are not even
good for us to actually cooking for 20
minutes slow and eventually it makes us
feel good because you’ve seen this
beautiful game called life most of us
will be playing for several more decades
to come right and slow progress is
better than no progress and slowly
changing my mindset from this instant
gratification actually seeing the long
term vision of what was possible helped
me to at least make some progress in my
life because you see human beings tend
to overestimate what they can do in a
short period of time and underestimate
what they can do in a long period of
time that was actually a study done by
Carmen Gallo author of how to talk like
that and he analyzed two brains one
brain of a man who did a lot of public
speaking and another brain of a man who
did no public speaking and he saw
something fascinating that the brain of
the person who did a lot of public
speaking had literally developed a
neural pathway that made the activity of
public speaking easier faster more
enjoyable and better and the other
person did not have that neural pathway
and think of a new pathway as a as a
brain muscle right the bigger that the
brain muscle is the easier it is for you
to do that activity same way that works
with a normal muscle right the bigger
that your chest muscle is the more
pushups you can do the bigger that your
thigh muscles are the more squat you can
do right same way with the brain muscle
the bigger that your brain muscle is for
certain activity the easier and better
and more joyful in the process it is for
you to do that activity our brains
literally transform once we do something
often enough haven’t you notice how
there’s some people who are able to
study every single day for months in a
row 10 hours a day for them it shows
like second nature like how do you do
that I can’t even read two pages and you
cannot let throw the book away like what
it’s not they’re better than you it’s
not that they have more motivation
you’re taught to just do it
they simply have a neural pathway for
that activity and that makes it easier
more fun and better at them than you do
because they have a level 10 brain
muscle you have a level 1 brain muscle
and what happens is that we look at the
level 10 brain muscle like wow I want to
do this too so suddenly I don’t know
where we start starting 6 hours a day
every single day for 10 months even
though we haven’t touched a book in the
last 5 years guess what happens we do it
once we do twice and eventually our
brain muscles just snap look they’re
breaking – and we completely burn out
again that’s what the microwave thinking
does and it seems that 99% of people
just have this mentality because I used
to have this mentality and we kept
burning out and burning out and burning
out but there’s another way there’s
another way we can start changing
ourselves and our changing your mindset
from microwave thinkI to oven thinking
and the way the oven thinking works is
that in that we have the chance to over
21 days to form a habit and instead of
joining from level 1 to level 10 we go
from level 1 to level 2 to level 3 to
level 4 to level 5 and so forth instead
of starting Sunday lay out of nowhere 6
hours a day we start the 10 minutes a
day and then again 10 minutes a day and
then again 10 minutes a day and then
again 10 minutes a day and eventually we
go to 20 minutes a day and 20 minutes a
day and 20 minutes a day you see we have
to take care of our neural pathways we
have to feed them and nurture them and
slowly after 21 days they will start
growing into adulthood they will start
upgrading from baby in your pathway to
pop on your pathway and once the pop on
your pathway skull starts getting
developed we can start raising the
intensity of what it is that we do
because you see once we start a new
activity the goal is not the intensity
of the activity the goal is the
frequency till it becomes second nature
to us till it reaches that unconscious a
computers level
the key to understanding of this is that
we can actually change but we have to be
very careful we have to start slow and
stay slow because before we focus on
thriving and being the best we must
simply focus on surviving and then we
can slowly start understanding that we
literally have the power to be or do
anything we want we have the power to
completely change your lives but the
most beautiful part is not that we can
change our lives is that we can change
other people’s lives because you see we
live in a world where everybody’s
looking for answers everybody seems to
have no idea what he wants to do how he
wants to do it why he wants do it no
confidence no nothing and everyone is
looking for someone to inspire them and
show them that there’s another way and
you don’t have to create the next
Facebook you don’t have to be a
millionaire you hell you don’t have to
be successful teach preach or anything
of that all you have to do is start
small and stay small like an oven and in
the meantime we have to trust the
process but most importantly we have to
trust ourselves because we are the
process and know that you don’t need me
you’ll need a motivational speaker you
don’t need the book you don’t need the
professor you don’t need any of that
what you need to do you know that
already because my friends the magic you
think you need is already inside of you
you are the magic I believe in you go
change the world thank you [Applause]
