3D Printed Minion Tip Jar – Da Vinci Jr. 1.0 Pro Review & Intro to 3D Printing Quick Guide

millions cute cuddly and kind of creepy
little helpers from the movie Despicable
Me I think that me and GRU has some
things in common you have free gadget
guru
and group and if you mash the two
together you get Greek gadget GRU kind
of funny but you know we’re just 3d
printing these it’s a tip jar one is
helpful so why not this was made on the
da vinci jr. 1.0 pro sent to me by XYZ
printing and today i’ll be giving my
honest review what are your thoughts on
more content like top 10 3d prints for
fill-in-the-blank maybe it could be for
a specific game genre that way we’re
combining video games and 3d printing
because of really what i want to do on
this channel is get people a little bit
more motivated to make stuff I think
that’s really important and it will lead
to a lot of opportunities in life now
this design I got to give walkthrough
the Creator
tamal said T and Kaia and I found this
on my mini Factory it’s free I’ll leave
a link in the description if you want to
check it out for shout out to him sorry
if I butchered your name enough talking
let’s dive right in
alright so let’s take a look at the
print itself it’s pretty cool this is an
olive jar it’s actually what they
recommended on the site you can see a
little bit of a fit too which is
pretty nice and you just add on the cap
here pretty nice little print now so
looking at the sort of style and how it
printed you can see did not use support
so there are some little blemishes here
I had to clean it up with some plastic
surgery expand Aguila in there and clean
whole slot for the coin itself but I
think this came out nice and just taking
this thing out of the box and having
something like this is pretty awesome I
did not use support
you can see here there are some other
blemishes but keep this thing on the
actual build platform I did use a rat
which is nice just like an adhesion
method more or less and then what I was
really impressed with is actually the
hands because this was printed just like
so on the actual platform you can see
how the hands were printed pretty nice
not having to use any sort of actual
support so I was surprised especially on
this one right here that almost looks
like you sprinted out to the side see on
the other side here this thing right out
of the box I was able to get something
like this now I want to make things fair
and print something that is a little bit
challenging obviously want to see if
this thing is actually doing a good job
so I’m going to go with everyone’s
favorite printing torture test bench II
this is really awesome because there is
lots of geometry that really challenged
this printer and push it to its limits
there may be some more challenging
prints out there but we’re going to go
with this one just because I think it’s
the most recognizable go ahead and load
now the last time that I tried printing
this I had the same problem where it
asks to actually repair the model I
don’t know what the deal is with this
but last time I said no and I didn’t
really have very good results so this
time I’m going to click yes and there we
have our model so let’s go ahead and
export and here are the settings that
we’re all looking for from the get-go
but they’re kind of minimized on the
side here which is where you can just
kind of rotate it scale it and get rid
of it if you want you know simple stuff
so go to actually exports so we’ll just
make this a little bit warmer because I
will have the actual chamber open so
that I can film my time lapse I will
bring this down to 0.2 I will use a rack
because I think that that’s actually
really helps with that adhesion and
which go ahead and export it
now this is kind of a nice feature and
probably one of the better things that I
would look into when it comes to your
filament spools being chipped you’re
never going to have to guess whether or
not you have enough filament now this is
an estimation of how much filaments left
in the cartridge which is four point
four five eight meters and it says in
the cartridge that I have currently that
I have 16 meters so I have more than
enough but that’s definitely a
comforting aspect and something you may
not think about whenever you’re getting
butthurt about the propriété filament
which I totally get
loading up your files is pretty easy
does a little SD card slot right here
pop it in go to a ste card and it’s got
been cheating
Oh
all right so it looks like it came out
pretty nice
stick closer look first of all just want
to give you a quick tip if you ever have
any issues with adhesion to your bed you
can use this washable school glue I like
this because it is purple and then it
dries clear so when you’re applying it
you won’t have any issues of trying to
figure out where you actually already
applied it if it’s clear so this is nice
and I think it’s pretty helpful
[Music]
Wow okay so I think I’ll have to replace
this tape just kind of a shame because
they give you a couple pieces of this
like perfectly sized to build plate tape
I don’t know if they sell as much sites
but they give you a couple pieces of
that to make the first couple of prints
nice and easy but two closer look at
this it snaps off pretty easy too so I
don’t know if that’s a retraction issue
usually it should come right off so it
looks like a pretty nice print these
circles came out nice you can see where
it was bridging there usually you would
need supports or something so that’s
probably due to the fan cooling the film
at a good ratio the arches look nice
even detail if you can see it a little
wheel steering wheel a little bit of
stringing this is a pretty good quality
print I want to draw attention to the
calibration which is probably the best
feature if you’re new to 3d printing
because that can be a little bit
daunting now this is weird this little
white switch right there press that down
that is how it starts calibration
process
[Music]
so that is a really awesome feature to
have because nothing is more annoying
than whenever you can’t actually get
adhesion let’s say that I want to bring
this forward go into the jog mode I want
to mess with the y-axis and then if you
want to do like time-lapse you want to
go into settings and going to go into
energy save and you want that to be off
and that will keep the actual right arm
those are pretty much all the setting
that you’re going to mess with on here
other than just choosing the file which
you can either connect it directly or
they give you an 8 gigabyte SD card to
actually load up all your files now this
is another awesome feature that I think
people are really excited about which is
the ability to use third-party filament
I think that a lot of people really do
appreciate the open-source aspect of 3d
printing now as far as their proprietary
filament goes they claim that it is like
better quality it’s not going to give
off fumes yeah sugar cane and cornstarch
and it’s really healthy all stuff
through the do it in a well ventilated
area regardless which I try to do so but
the interesting thing is that these XYZ
printing filament spools are actually
kit which means you look inside here
there is a little computer chip and it
will actually tell you whether or not
you have any filament left in your spool
I think this is being able to use
third-party filament is a really smart
move and hopefully they continue to do
that also want to mention the bees are
600 grams instead of thousands so we’re
getting a little bit less filament and a
little bit pricey but I guess you’re
paying for quality alright so the pros
you have the Auto leveling you have
third-party filament accessibility also
you have the option to switch to a point
three millimeter nozzle which is going
to give you some better quality prints
not for the cons I’m not too excited
about
xyzware Pro there
why sir I feel like the options are kind
of limited and what you can do to edit
the file now I did a little bit of
research and I found that you can’t
actually use other slicers for this
machine which is really nice so gives
you some open-source aspects it’s not a
human bed so you’re pretty much going to
have to stick with PLA kind of limited
by the print material as far as I know
all of their parts are a proprietary
which means you can’t mix and match and
swap out any heated extruder heads or
anything like that you just have to use
what they have except the option now
between the point three and point four
millimeter nozzle it’s a moderate build
plate size you have five point nine
inches cubed or I think it’s like 15
centimeters cubed you’re going metric so
there’s definitely bigger build plates
out there to choose from if you think
you’re going to need it for your
projects you might want to upgrade all
right so to summarize everything I think
this a great affordable printer for
beginners at the end of the day I have a
minyan chip jar it’s a pretty good
quality print I did print at two point
five so I’m sure I could have gotten a
lot better quality it’s just a matter of
layer height but this is acceptable for
the project and I’m definitely satisfied
with the results so if you’re looking to
3d printing this is a good place to
start
and if you found this review helpful
please leave a like 3d printers are just
another tool to add to my creative
Arsenal and for making cool stuff and
pretty much obliterating boredom I’m Way
too creative to just sit here and not
make new things so 3d printing really
fits awesome into my life so I hope that
you maybe are inspired to try for
yourself they’re getting pretty
affordable and I’ll leave a link in the
description if you’re interested in
picking one up for yourself
so subscribe for more awesome projects
and thank you for watching until next
time take it easy
