How to prepare a plum – Jamie Oliver’s Home Cooking Skills

how to prepare the perfect plum so your
life will be a hundred times easier if
you pick a plum that’s white so you are
looking for one that’s nice and got a
bit of giving it’s nice it’s not
rock-hard like a bullet like they are
when they first come off the trees and
bushes but one that’s got a bit of give
that one’s nice I’m going to have that
one have a feel around and see which
ones you like so I’ve got a nice bit to
give yep so loads nicer to eat when the
nice and ripe and much easier to prep
because there’s a stone in the middle
that we’ve got to pull out and if
they’re under light and they’re really
hard it can hold on to the stone and it
won’t give it to you and you end up
bruising all the fruit and it goes all
brown and mushy so also we’re going to
learn a nice skill so the best way to
cut a plum is you want to keep it in
contact with the board so you’re not
rolling around all over the place near
your fingers and we can move the plum
rather than the knife so if I put my
knife in there and then I twist the plum
I can go all the way around to where I
was at the beginning and my knife
doesn’t go all the way through because
it’s it’s hit the stone in the middle
and you can use this little crease that
runs down the plum naturally as a
guideline of where you’re not going to
go so have a go at that keep your
fingers out the way I set right down to
the stone lets it feel it and then roll
your plum round till you’re back to the
beginning Bob’s your uncle that’s it put
your knife down then you twist hello all
you’ve got a nice one right so then you
just want to you can if you like me I go
straight in with my fingers and pull it
out but if you’re a bit more demure you
can trace around the edge of the stone
with your knife keeping it firmly on the
board and then you can just pull it out
if it’s a bit tricky
so that’s it how easy was that you
perfect plums
