consider the largest and most difficult
engineering project ever the Panama
Canal was completed in the first part of
the 20th century it actually connected
the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean
through Central America the 48 mile
canal actually allowed ships now to pass
between North and South America rather
than going around the southernmost tip
of South America a ship going from New
York to San Francisco now only had to
travel 6,000 miles in comparison with
the previous amount of 14,000 miles
enough earth and rubble was moved during
construction of the Panama Canal to
build a 16-foot wide tunnel all the way
to the center of the earth
