The Nine Planets – Uranus

Uranus is the seventh planet from the
Sun its equatorial diameter of over
fifty one thousand kilometers mates it
the third largest at almost four times
the size of Earth Uranus orbits the Sun
in thirty thousand seven hundred and
seven days it was the first planet to be
discovered in modern times and the first
to be discovered using a telescope all
other planets closer to Earth were
discovered with the naked eye like the
rest of the outer planets Uranus is a
gas planet is made up primarily of ices
and gases it is similar to the cores of
Jupiter and Saturn without the liquid
metallic hydrogen layer Uranus has 27
known natural satellites all named after
characters of William Shakespeare and
Alexander Pope a distinctive feature of
Uranus tis the fact that its axis is
tilted at 95 degrees this means that on
its way around the Sun in 42 years half
of its orbit period only one half of the
planet is in complete sunlight while the
others in complete darkness and for the
other 42 years it’s reversed Uranus has
only been visited once and that was by
NASA’s Voyager 2 on its way to Neptune
