the ability today Shelley McDonald about
the BOSU ball workout so can you begin
by telling us about yourself I’ve been a
trainer in the industry for at least 25
years I started in dance and I
progressed right up to things like the
BOSU to carry all kinds of different
programs I love fitness I also had a TV
show for 16 years called the Caribbean
workout now what is the BOSU ball or gap
the boast is a half ball which has a
curved side and a flat side and both are
great for different functions it’s an
acronym BOSU for both sides up we can
use the flat side for balance training
we can use the curved side for both core
stability and balance training and
cardio you get a muscular workout you
get functional training so anybody can
do this workout they just have to be
progressed in the right way what’s the
science behind this workout you want to
improve the quality of your movement
patterns and your movement in general
and be more have more body control
you’re gonna notice when you get on it
right away that you have to be very very
mindful of what you’re doing because you
have to balance on it because it’s not
such a stable surface it’s going to
increase the amount of muscles that
you’re using well you get a cardio
workout as well I took a lot of my moves
other people do different things from
basic step training from sports
conditioning from dance and I combine
them all together I think it’s one of
the best cardio tools there is because
you have to really balance yourself and
get up and down on it so there’s a lot
more work than just getting up on a
staff do you think you could take us
through your class it’s a lot more
intense than what people are expecting
because we’re working at a quite a high
speed but at the same time what I tell
people is that way to take your time be
mindful when you get
fired back off take a moment especially
if you’re the movements are getting
sloppy because again it’s all about
quality of movement do you have any
final words of advice about the BOSU
ball workout with any fitness program
there are things that are gonna work for
you and things that are not going to
work for you and what you want to do is
work with it enough to find those things
that do work for you sometimes the
things that don’t feel right are the
things you need the most yeah
the body’s just telling you something so
if it’s you’re really wobbly that
probably means you need a little more
balanced work well thank you very much
well thank you
