I’m Rebecca Brayton and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’re speaking
with Danko Jones so we always like to
start with the origin stories of the
bands that we interview so why don’t you
tell us how Danko Jones originally us
together we’ve been a band for 14 plus
years now we started in toronto played
the states for a little bit did a couple
canadian tours a label out in sweden
wanted to put out a record nothing was
really happening in canada or America it
kind of plateaued for us we took up the
robber we did a five week tour in 2001
and we never looked back we’ve done 22
tours since then and here we are I
wanted to know what kind of music you
grew up listening to when I was a
teenager I listened to you a lot of
metal and then from metal I got into
punk rock once I discovered the Bad
Brains that pretty much all bets were
off and I pretty much got into any kind
of music that sounded good to my ears
regardless of whether it was fashionable
or cool or not for me I naturally
gravitated back towards what I started
liking when I was a kid which is just
rock and metal and it’s pretty much what
I listen to these days

tell us about the new album the new
album’s called below the belt I
interpreted as a combination of like the
best elements of previous albums like
the heaviness of we sweat blood the
speed of sleep is the enemy melody of
never too loud kind of fused together I
think it’s got some of the heaviest
moments in some of the fastest moments
we’ve ever put on tape very happy about
it and very excited that everybody’s
really digging it which is great
and what about the video for full of
regret tell us a bit more about the
premise of that and how it all came
together the premise of the video is
it’s a movie trailer that were the stars
of Lemmy from Motorhead is the evil
villain and he’s trying to kill us whom
he dumped him James and he’s hired
Elijah Wood who’s from Lord of the Rings
in Sin City and a whole ton other movies
that you probably have seen already and
selma Blair she’s also trying to kill us
so these are the two hitmen trying to
they’re just chasing us around and mike
watt who was in the minuteman and fire
hose and he now plays with Iggy Pop and
the Stooges he’s the narrator kind of
like the sam elliott character in The
Big Lebowski the bookmarks the video and
he did an awesome job
we’re very grateful for them just coming
down helping us out it made the video
look like a million bucks but we spent
like 25 bucks on it
