this flatbread is traditionally found in
Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine
hi I’m Rebecca Brayton and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’ll be showing
you how to make pita bread so for this
recipe you’ll need three cups of
all-purpose flour
one and a half teaspoons of salt one
tablespoon of sugar or honey
two teaspoons of yeast one and a quarter
to one and a half cups of
room-temperature water and two
tablespoons of olive oil
first step combine the yeast with the
sugar salt and flour we’re using quick
rise yeast next add the olive oil and
about a cup and a quarter of the water
and stir with a wooden spoon
this mixture should form into a ball but
if you find it’s too dry slowly add more
water until the mixture sticks together
once your dough is the right consistency
place it on your work surface and knead
for 10 minutes once that’s done roll
your dough into a ball pour about a
teaspoon of oil in a mixing bowl and
roll your ball of dough through the oil
making sure its surface is completely
covered
we’ve the dough in the bowl and cover it
with a damp towel leaving it to rise
until it is doubled in size this should
take about an hour and a half
once it’s risen punch down the dough and
divide it into eight pieces
now roll these pieces into balls and
cover them with a damp towel and leave
them to rest for 20 minutes
preheat the oven to 400 degrees at this
point you should also put an upside-down
cookie sheet in your oven to work as
your cooking surface once the dough is
rested flour your work surface and roll
each of the balls to about a quarter
inch thick
once the oven is preheated place as many
as you can on your upside-down cookie
sheet for soft pitas cook for about
three minutes for more browned and
crispy pita cooked for six to eight
minutes pita bread is great when served
with a dip such as hummus or you could
even try making it into a sandwich
