Guide to Drums – The Single Stroke

the most basic element that we all must
learn to begin with is called the single
stroke and the single stroke is very
simple it goes right left right left and
i’ll demonstrate right now on my snare
drum
[Music]
that is the single stroke what one
should do when learning the single
stroke is to begin very slow gradually
go to your top speed and then gradually
return to the slow speed you started
with my top speed is relatively high
compared to a beginners so try and
imagine when you feel tension in your
arms that’s when you back off no matter
how slow your top speed is when you
begin I’ll demonstrate for beginner top
speed is somewhere around here if you’re
lucky so you want to start really slow
watch as I gradually increase to let’s
say a beginners top speed

notice how I gradually slowed back down
to my original speed that is the best
way to practice the single stroke if you
do this every day for let’s say a week
or two you’re going to notice a drastic
improvement in your top speed and it’ll
start looking more like this
