Guide to Drums – Backbeat Counting

how to play the basic rock deep that I
just showed you the first important
thing to know is how to count while
we’re playing okay I’m going to teach
you how to count in eighth notes that’s
counting all the beats and the points
halfway between each bead and the way we
count is one and two and three and four
and one and two and three and four and
while counting out loud I would like you
to play with your right hand on the
hi-hat cymbal while keeping it closed
with your foot okay we got to keep it
closed nice and tight notice this is
open this is open and this is closed we
want to keep it closed so we get this
nice tight sound and we’re going to
count along one and two and three and
four and you’re going to want to keep
playing it and counting out loud and get
very comfortable with counting out loud
and playing the time with your right
hand on the high hat okay you have to
make sure that your right hand is
crossed over your left hand if you want
to play the snare drum we’re going to
put the snare drum on beat two and beat
force whenever you say the number two
and we say the number for you hit the
snare drum being sure to keep hitting
the high hat on those numbers as well
one and two and three and
and 110 + 3 +
