Car Review: BMW Active Hybrid 7

for now if the fastest hybrid in the
world hi I’m Miranda light stone with
watchmojo.com and this is BMWs
game-changer
the act of hybrid 7 driving the act of
hybrid 7 is very much like driving a
regular 7 Series except you have this
electric motor that’s actually giving
you a boost on your combustion engine
you’re also saving on gas thanks to the
electric component now the way the
hybrid works is that you charge it when
you brake and when you lift your foot
off the accelerator so you’re always
giving the electric motor kinetic energy
and when you come to a stop either at a
traffic jam or at a light the engine
actually turns off what the motor does
is it stops the combustion engine and
you’re running fully on electric once
you press the accelerator to go the
engine restarts and you once again
running on combustion as far as in-car
technology goes with the active hybrid 7
it’s really not that different from a 7
Series
there’s optional night vision blind spot
detection lane departure warning and
laser-guided cruise control so even
though it’s during the day it’s
interesting to note that BMW night
vision actually works 300 metres away to
detect anything that’s hot so it’ll show
you if there are creatures in the road
and it has a pedestrian detector which
will actually give you a warning signal
to let you know that there’s a person up
ahead so that you won’t hit them the
electric motor on the activehybrid 7
increases the fuel efficiency by about
18% when compared to the regular 750
that’s pretty good for a car of this
size and with this much power with 455
horsepower in a v8 engine they’re
getting about a combined miles per
gallon of in the mid 20s maybe 26 25
it’s no Toyota Prius what you are saving
money on gas driving the act of hybrid 7
isn’t as smooth as I’d like it to be
when you take your foot off the
accelerator to come to a stop the car
slows down as if it’s in mud because
it’s pulling from the kinetic energy and
when you brake it’s so severe you almost
wonder if you’re braking too hard but
again it’s the electric motor pulling
from the
energy to prove to use a lag that the
electric motor has on the active hybrid
7 I’m going to come to a complete stop
which is now stop the combustion engine
the car is now running full electric
there’s no motor running just electric
now if I want to leave the stop light or
a stop sign wherever I am they can shut
off the brake
the engine has to start again and then I
can go so you have to account for those
2 to 3 seconds that it takes you to
start the car again and get going fast
and fuel-efficient the act of hybrid 7
is an engineering feat BMW can be proud
of
let’s just hope the technology trickles
down into more affordable models in the
near future
