Escape the Label | Daniel Fundora | TEDxCoconutGrove

I am a gold medalist a coach and a pony

and athlete at the age of three i was

diagnosed with autism what it’s like to

have autism I live a normal life just

like you I struggle with having goals of

losing weight learning at school and

becoming an adult because i was told i

have limitations I know push myself and

never took worse I didn’t feel healthy I

feel hopeless and rejected I always

wanted to play sports be happy and after

but was stuck with negative thinking and

found myself living a comfort zone I

made a decision to escape the label of

being disabled and limited I decided to

be labeled a coach a mentor and the

athlete today I would like to share with

all of you my story first I had to

decide whatever to stay in my comfort

zone with my disabilities for the rest

of my life or to live my life to the

forest freedom since I was eight years

old I was overweight I was sick and

tired of being heavy and after high

school I started when my first goal

weight loss I made changes to my diet I

went for winning 230 pounds to 165

pounds with my weight loss I was able to

escape the stigma of being labeled lazy

a week changing my hammers help me to a

bug house and getting me the energy in

near to one without breaking down it

took years

it’s not like in the building Super

Mario Brothers will you eat a mushroom

and you would test me grow big and

strong it tastes tyne and committed

slowly I started to know is I was

getting a lot more attention from people

with this new attention I started having

more confidence and was able to speak to

more people and get involved in more

community attorneys changing my thinking

maybe more positive and helped me to

grow with my new body and my new

found out about special Olympus in

middle school but didn’t fully committed

until 2012 before I could compete I had

to get good at the sports I wanted to

play I wanted to be a goalie for the

soccer team so I had to train hard I had

to die for the ball quickly i had to pay

close attention to where the ball was

going days in my mind and body will not

used to doing at first it was hard i was

tolling over and over again say i quote

hurried early don’t worry the ball is no

good to hear you or don’t worry they

aren’t going to school on you well guess

what the ball to hit me and it disc or

me you can get mad I learned but don’t

get frustrated it’s part of the game if

I wanted to show the world my abilities

then I have to take everything as a

learning

experience when trained for saw ball I

had to learn to look into the future to

see where the ball was going to land and

try occasion like love capilla

successfully in basketball tell me about

teamwork and communication if you want

to win the game you must talk to your

teammates so we are are on the same page

but when it loose I am proud to have

learned these Bible lessons and have

been successful in sports being labeled

less than is unacceptable in my book I

am able to be an athlete through hard

work and dedication I want my first gold

medal in softball in 2012 over the next

few years I could be inmate events like

Power Board basketball soccer and golf

and have earned over 10 medals today I

consider myself to be an athlete just

like any other athlete in 2016 I was

honored to see athlete Leah of the year

for your special lepers of fauna oh I’m

not done yet some of my friends have

called me a local severity but I’m not

trying to be a severity I’m just trying

to do what makes me happy will you take

words you have the opportunity to

succeed will you play safe nothing

nothing’s going to happen my first story

to ask me what I did to get fit and how

they could improve their lives so I

started

give the rabbi’s about eway making good

life decisions can you fit and standing

up for themselves I decided to become a

coach the most important thing to me as

a coach is to help athletes grow to

their full potential and push their

limits one of my life goals is to become

a professional coach with four dividuals

with disabilities whatever is teaching

sports or being a fitness trainer only a

living helping others it is something I

want to achieve at the highest level in

addition to coaching I am also a member

of The Bachelor program at best buddies

as in ambassador i right enka specious

and bling disability winners to mike

merely speaking has given me

self-confidence and has introduced me to

new people all over the county i am also

have a great job because of best bodies

I’m Korea poori an F are you and miss

Dale bald I cook at University and serve

food to stew as a staff at Mozilla balt

I work in a warehouse moving art and

furniture I think it is important for

people who have disabilities to have a

job and be independent it is important

to say to have a paycheck and save money

do you know that eighty-five percent of

people like me don’t have jobs I am here

today to encourage the Camellia people

with disabilities to stay after to have

the boys and to be heard
