a full-size pickup doing a burnout may
surprise some people
perhaps more surprising is the engine
under the hood it’s not a typical big v8
traditional pickup trucks have always
been about due dates right v8s go and
pickup trucks and that’s the traditional
mindset thanks to increasing concern
about fuel economy that mindset is
changing
– v6 engines are available in new f-150s
including one they call the EcoBoost a
turbocharged v6 that cranks out 365
horsepower
this v6 can carry heavier loads and took
more weight than other full-size pickups
with v8 more than half of all new f-150s
are being ordered with v6 engines
everything in this line is new for the
2011 series the turbocharged v6 it’s 22
miles to the gallon on the highway not
the most fuel-efficient vehicle on the
road but better than v8 powered trucks a
15 to 20 percent improvement over
previous f-150s with the same towing
capacity pretty impressive that you can
take a v6 and make it as durable and
help the same type of output and give
better gas mileage
the next step is to meet those engines
to their frames
but first it’s time to flip the frame
when I first started with the company we
were turning frames over manually with
hoist now it’s all automated it goes in
and grabs it it flips it they can get
everything as precise as it needs to be
and be as accurate or sometimes even
more accurate than what you and I can do
fuel hoses brake lines and other small
parts are installed next it’s like a
giant mechanical amusement park in
shopping mall there’s a ride for frames
swings that carry engines high overhead
and then down what looks like an
escalator
but it’s still a truck Factory
and it’s time to put engines into frames
it takes about 30 seconds like every
station in the factory things happen
fast
