Ladies and gentlemen, good morning.
I will not make a very long demo, as there is not too much space.
Here is a device that is changing
the rules of urban traffic.
It is a small vehicle with which I came today
to present it to you,
but also because it is my main means of transport.
I live at fourteen kilometers from here so I came up with today.
I guess, for your part, you have come with more traditional means –
Perhaps public transport, by car, taxi, whatever –
movement means in all cases that involve certain constraints
like my predecessors just announced:
wasting time in traffic jams
or wait for a RER that fails
because of a suspicious package, for example, in a station,
or spend time glued to each other
in a crowded subway train people,
situations not always very pleasant.
I suggest you free yourself of all these problems every day
that add stress and fatigue every day or very often,
by the moving means.
So how does it work?
We must dare to ride it.
It is true that at first, it can be scary.
And it must drop back and trust the machine.
It will catch up with you, making you forward.
It is a center of gravity of history:
putting your weight on the front of the machine, it speeds forward,
putting your weight on the back, if it slows back
if you stay on your heels.
Here.
There are several ways to use this means of transportation.
Some are simply used for fun.
There are those who go to “skate park”
to make small jumps, freestyle,
make technical FIGS several,
to ride on one foot, do the reverse,
or do acrobatics.
Some are very strong, they get to ride on the hands.
Then there are those who will use it more conventionally,
to make simple walks, to visit the country, chase the Pokémon,
do whatever you want.
Then there are those who will use it in a more extreme end,
drive flat out in the forest, ride off-road,
which is closer to my profile.
If you look at my wheel, it is not very clean.
I like to do cross in the mud, flat out.
Here is a Finn makes the wheel in the snow.
Here. So a lot of ways to have fun with the electric wheel.
I consider that in addition to
a fun alternative to the movement means,
it is a real moving means
which will allow to do, really, real distances.
A kilowatt-hour costs 15 cents of electricity
among different suppliers, knowing that with 1 kW-hr,
you can travel up to 80 kilometers on this type of device –
80 km real: these are not phony manufacturer data.
I am a factor.
I’m not a commercial. I will not sell you a product.
I can sell you stamps if you like, (laughs)
but not an electric wheel.
I came here in passionate to share this passion
and possibly make you want to think
a future means of transport
in addition to or instead of your current movement means.
I was saying, 15 cents, 80 km.
Compared to the car, for the same distance,
it will cost you 50 times more expensive fuel,
not to mention the insurance, maintenance, repairs,
tolls, parking meters, tickets may,
everything that goes with the use of a car,
not to mention that heat engines
are much more polluting and make noise.
This kind of device has no such constraints.
You do not need to park, to have insurance,
or do a lot of maintenance.
This, I have to exceed the 10 000 km
on the meter of this wheel,
10,000 km and I never changed any room
except tire that deserves perhaps to be changed because it’s a bit smoother.
But otherwise than that, it’s virtually free to use,
apart from the purchase price.
I have not spoken of the purchase price.
These devices can range from 600 to 3000 euros.
That’s why if we consider it as a way to have fun,
it’s a bit expensive, the toy.
That’s why I consider it as a real means of transportation.
This really is the ideal means of transport
to do whatever you have to do,
either go small supermarket shopping,
go to an appointment, see friends, family in the area,
or go to work, for example.
I go to work every day with my wheel for two years now.
Before, I used to go by bike.
The wheel takes up less space at home.
It is less bulky, easier to carry upstairs.
It weighs a little heavy but it’s less of a hassle to wear a bicycle.
And then I have my morning surf session before work,
it’s very nice, happy to slip,
in this great playground of Paris.
In the morning at the time that I go, there is little traffic,
therefore it is a treat to practice this moving means.
So, I get to much cooler office.
Before, when I went by bike, I arrived sweating
because I tend to go late.
The electric wheel, it really changed everything.
I can put it to reload under my working position
while I work,
which allows me to charge the employer for me, impeccable.
This is really convenient for a vacation also.
It takes up little space in a car
or under the seat on the train.
Then come to you exit the station, you are free.
You can visit cities and regions throughout France and Europe,
much faster, with much more freedom.
I took a trip – you behind the images.
I left Amsterdam and I rode in the Netherlands, Belgium, France,
for 1 600 km in 18 consecutive days.
I rebooted of 39 electrical outlets that I found in As,
on my way: in restaurants where I was going to eat,
in public spaces, lobbies of buildings,
EDF closets, stations, everywhere.
It became a game to sniff the current
wherever I could find it,
a hunting-sized electricity treasures
allowing me to continue my adventure.
I named this adventure “I will instruct you in”
a nod to the issuance of Antoine de Maximy on France 5.
I tried myself to sleep in people,
This was not always obvious.
I did a few nights under the stars next to my socket.
It was the most important, rule number one:
have the power to continue.
I set myself a rule not to go to the hotel,
or use of other moving means
because it would have taken away the charm of the adventure.
I wanted to do something unique, it was a challenge.
So I managed to achieve this
thanks to people who welcomed me on the road,
because I was writing a blog as and,
to tell all my adventures.
People have contacted me via the blog, social networking or other,
to say, “You go near my home, if you want, just sleep”
for lunch as lunch or whatever,
in any case, to recharge my vehicle.
This trip has proved
it is a real moving means,
and also to some extent, a social tool to go meet people.
When riding on it, automatically,
there across the street, parks, lots of people
ranging from curiosity come to you to be interested in your machine.
“It’s great your thing, it’s called? It is bought where? How many ?
Will you make me try? “
This easily makes contact with the outside world,
with people you would not necessarily talk
if you were an ordinary pedestrian.
I have met people in the community of “wheelers”
as we are called:
the wheelers of Paris, the wheelers from all over France.
We organized walks regularly, and even today.
Similarly there skating hiking,
there is now the wheelers riding, walks of tens of kilometers
during which we stopped in bars
to recharge the devices that are most in need.
It is also an excuse to drink a little blow with friends, eventually.
Here you see pictures with more than a hundred people.
These are events organized from time to time in the year.
The next will be in late April with more than 250 people,
which proves that it is really a way
which is being strongly developed recently.
It is a social object in addition to being a means of transport,
a fun alternative to the means of transport.
I made another trip more recently,
on the African continent.
It may seem odd to go with it in Africa.
We had a small humanitarian project with two friends.
Before leaving, we had created a prize pool online.
It was nearly 3 000 more than what we had imagined,
and thanks to this money, so we, during our trip in Senegal
brought things to people, including the talibés
orphans who are living from begging
and entrusted to someone who takes care of their education.
It would help these folks
to bring them everything they needed:
mattresses, notebooks, pens, large bags of 50 kg of rice,
sugar, powdered milk …
then these shares was repeated several times throughout our trip.
They were very happy to see us.
In addition, this kind of small device, it has created a lot of surprises.
We crossed the country in remote places
where people did not necessarily used to seeing tourists.
Seeing three white get home a little surprised them,
then in addition, this kind of device, you can imagine!
We have been there full of beautiful meetings everywhere where it stopped.
It was like a magnet case.
The whole village gathered around us by curiosity,
to see what we were doing here with this.
So, we really had no trouble finding places to sleep,
to eat, to recharge our vehicles.
People were happy to welcome us home.
Despite widespread poverty in the country,
they were always very welcoming.
They offered us to share a meal with them,
we offered a small room for the night, an electrical outlet,
all that was necessary for our happiness.
So a great adventure …
that you can follow if you’re interested, through a small web series,
a web series to be broadcast on YouTube
as several episodes, by the end of spring probably.
There are a lot of pictures.
Here you have some
where we are seen riding on the roads of red earth.
we had asked much before:
“You’re going to do how to ride in the sand there?
You will be how to find the current? “
I also asked myself these questions, having never been to Senegal.
Finally, we had no problems.
The roads are in fairly good condition, traffic can be a little dangerous,
but we had those paths where the carts usually run,
which were very pleasant to ride around.
Concerning the current, we had no problems either.
Electrical installations were sometimes a little scared.
The standards are not the same as in Europe.
But the current was at the rendezvous, so we could move across the country.
So, for this adventure quite unusual.
I hope it made you want
convert to this new mode of travel,
without necessarily go to the extreme across whole countries.
But for your daily commute in urban areas,
I think it really is an absolutely brilliant movement means
that will get you a lot of fun, you meet people,
save you money and time.
That’s why I came today to share this passion.
A little anecdote as I have time.
I was riding in the Nantes vineyards, last year, my wheel,
no bike paths or sidewalks.
I was in the countryside,
and I was riding without a helmet – which I am entitled.
The police arrested me for that reason.
They wanted me verbalize.
I said, “No, the helmet is not mandatory.
As biking is actually advisable.
For cons, I have a motor but, I am considered a pedestrian,
a super-pedestrian somehow.
You can verbalize me
because I’m on the road and I have nothing to do there.
Suddenly, I received a ticket for € 4:
“Pedestrian irregular”.
(Laughter)
I have helped a little because they had trouble finding the pattern.
All that to say that the rules are changing.
Even the police are not yet too familiar.
The rules of the game change and I hope that I would meet you soon
on this great playground of the Paris region,
why not you also on this kind of small vehicle.
Thank you for your attention.
(Applause)
