this pop punk band has managed to stay
current after forming in 1997 welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’re speaking
with Ryan key lead singer of yellow card
about his favorite video cover and
moment from his career
what’s your favorite video that you guys
have done rough landing holly sure from
lights and sounds I’m so fun to make you
know who shot underwater it was a time
when the music business was very
different and you could say things like
I want all the extras in the whole video
to be aging and they say okay and they
go cast 200 Asian experts
those things cost money like you know
big giant Olympic swimming pool
underwater shoots and five different
locations and extras and minted police
cars and all the fun stuff we got to do
for that yeah but people don’t really
spend I’m not gonna tell you how much
that music video cost because it’s just
absurd now to even think about kind of
honestly or like really spent that much
money we were kind of stupid
Ocean Avenue is closed second I mean
obviously that video did a lot of things
for our career and a lot of the reason
we’re sitting here having this interview
that I’m still in a band
favorite cover song you’ve ever done we
did I’ll cover up high and dry for this
AOL sessions thing two jumps in a week I
bet you think that’s pretty clever don’t
you boy
before we went in there our ra our guy
at the time pulled me aside and he was
like dude you can’t cover radio it like
you can’t do that and I’m like why not
and he goes because he’s just something
you don’t do and I was like well I’m
doing it sorry you know after we were
done he apologized for saying before and
I’m really proud of it i think it came
out awesome
down
your defining moment in your career I
think in 2011 when we released the first
single from when you’re through thinking
say yes and we shut down the servers at
absolutepunk net it’s a website that
influences a lot of fans in our genre of
music whatever that genre is where you
want to call it and so it’s a place we
still sort of use as a barometer for how
we’re doing we put that song out and I
think there was I mean there was a
common ridiculous amount of plays in the
first 24 hours hundred thousand
something something crazy and and you
know the website couldn’t physically
handle all the people going there that
was the first thing we did is the first
thing piece of music we put out and you
know after the hiatus I’m letting you
as much as people expect me to answer
you know winning the video music award
or signing the Capitol Records or
getting a platinum album all these
amazing things that happened to the band
i really think that that day watching
that happen was more defining than
anything else because we realized that
you know there was a future for the band
and out we were going to be able to keep
doing what we love to do and that you
can break the internet sure yeah it’s
always fun to break the internet thank
you yeah
you
