Woodsmen Competition: A Primer

my brother has his daughter at McMaster
so he was going through all of this
stuff he had to buy for his daughter for
school so I said to him but I bet you
didn’t have to buy a chainsaw
felted axe and chopped up free plane
down with his ball work swing well I
would imagine the origins go back to our
early days I’m sure it goes back to the
days of logging and woodsmen ship
knowing people they would have been
competitive with each other so who could
fell a tree quicker who could make a
cleaner cut every school has a team
there’s six people on a team and there’s
core events which are all the team
events then there’s doubles events where
it’s only 22 members compete there’s
three events like that and then there’s
six individual events all right next
would win that’s how we come judges get
free alumni of woodsman and you get to
judge been doing it since I graduated
money is over you’re at work because
everything is judged still in our time
and depending on your event a split
second makes a difference from first
place the fourth place you either
chopping wood throwing axes climbing
poles starting fires water boil to give
a picture of that that’s the best all my
name is Tyler to Kenora and I’m from
portable Ontario well it was advertised
around the school so I just went it to
tryouts and one of my buddies came out a
tune
I want to get your pencils on you want
to get a good few layers of pencils and
then start building up around the can
keep the heat in and then the excess
wood that you have you put it on the
back of the fire and then you start
blowing out it and just keep blowing
until it boils
I’m Chris bustard i go to school at
Dartmouth College but I’m from Sarasota
Florida one of my friends who is on the
team got me to come out to a practice
and then just you know kept coming out
having fun I really like poll Klein I’m
not the fastest at it but it’s a lot of
fun competitor has to ring a bell at the
very top some places you can just hit
the bell other places like here there’s
a string and you had to ring it luge it
is all on belay so something goes wrong
nothing too bad can happen two
competitors took a lot of slipping down
the pole a couple times before i started
to get it
you
