smarter number 5 Mass Effect Andromeda
with everything going on I think the Ark
needs you more than we do after the Mass
Effect trilogy had closed we were left
in silence on the future of the
franchise for quite a few years so you
can imagine the excitement when
Andromeda was announced now imagine how
quickly it died when the game was
launched and people saw this after
Sloane turned what should have been a
medical breakthrough into a drug the
game was passable but what ruined it was
incredibly awkward animations and
equally awkward writing apparently many
of the problems with this game stem from
mismanagement by EA so Bioware isn’t
completely to blame but either way
Andromeda’s poor performance would lead
to future DLC getting canned and now the
future of the whole franchise seems
pretty uncertain
number four Wolfenstein – the new
Colossus America I guess they don’t have
the fighting spirit no more in
comparison to some other games on this
list new Colossus was a solid shooter
and one hell of a thrill ride
however the controversy doesn’t actually
lie in the game itself have you ever
seen a game that promotes the hashtag no
more Nazis well it’s pretty obvious that
the hashtag is a reference to well
killing Nazis in the game a particular
group of people didn’t take kindly to
this marketing also used slogans such as
not my America and make American Nazi
free again given how politically heavy
2017 was we can see that Bethesda and
sledgehammer games were probably
providing some subtle commentary on
current events but as marketing Vice
President Pete Hines stated Nazis are
evil we aren’t afraid to remind people
of that and we really don’t disagree you
should join us we could always use more
good people
number three Middle Earth shadow of war
the war for Mordor bacon
one of 27 teens most frequently
mentioned memories was when
single-player games gave you the full
experience no scandalous business
tactics or scummy tricks involved well
Warner Brothers solidified our nostalgia
when they announced that shadow of war
would utilize a loot box system
microtransactions included remember
folks this is a single-player game that
wants you to pay 60 bucks and uses a
loot box system things took a turn for
the worse when players found out that
the true ending of the game is insanely
difficult to obtain without a huge grind
or you know purchasing loot boxes which
could contain legendary orcs we can
understand a few multiplayer games and
we do mean a few that use loot boxes but
a $60 single-player game come on man
number 2 destiny 2
destiny – started off with an okay
launch but a parade of scandals followed
okay so there’s microtransactions
involved but technically it gets worse
shaders became one-time consumable items
which meant the players would have to
grind to get colors and patterns that
they wanted then there was the time that
players figured out that Bungie and
Activision were technically lying about
XP rewards and gradually scaling them
back over time then
kirsov Osiris came out and put a once
free game-mode behind a kind of pay wall
which subsequently locked out an
achievement trophy behind that pay wall
and recently as of time of writing adds
word loaded up intrusively write on
multiple PlayStation 4 owners game
dashboards a day after Christmas you
know that’s a section that’s supposed to
be reserved for the users game and apt
library
destiny – is still a very enjoyable game
but Activision and Bungie seem to be
trying pretty hard to turn that around
number one Star Wars Battlefront to take
on my offer
I wanted to code well well well we
started this list with an EA game and
now we’re ending it with an EA game what
was supposed to be an apology for the
rather lackluster 2015 battlefront
quickly became one of the year’s worst
and most controversial games the reason
can be summed up – two little burdens
loot boxes and microtransactions I mean
that’s like 1.5 they’re basically
related today
the rebellion dies the game’s economy
was revealed to be so reliant on these
darn things that it attracted the
attention of gaming media outlets
YouTube personalities Disney executives
and politicians the backlash was so bad
that it led to e.8 removing
microtransactions hours before lunch
regardless many players boycotted the
game during the holidays and EA suffered
a 3.1 billion dollar drop in stock value
