hello and welcome to top X where we
count down the very best that YouTube
has to offer
I’m your host Dan and today we’re
counting down our picks for the top 10
how to and light pack chest
[Music]
for this list we’re looking at all those
channels that have you making stuff from
simple tips and life hacks to full-on
construction projects
we’re only excluding channels that deal
primarily with cooking and software
tutorials depending on your feedback we
may do upcoming episodes that deal only
with these individual topics such as
life hacks in more depth so let us know
in the comments which ones interest you
the most we ranked our picks based on a
mix of subscriber numbers use boats from
our users personal preference and
general impact on the YouTube community
number 10 monkey see sometimes you find
a youtube channel that does so many
different things it’s hard to explain
what they do in a short amount of time
monkey sea is definitely one of those
channels today with tiny fall for video
clips we all want to get our lives
organized I have a few tips for you
one of the best ways to figure out what
they do on monkey-see is to check out
all their playlists they have different
lists for home-improvement pets
gardening cars relationships the list
goes on they even have a whole playlist
devoted to duct tape based crafts with
28 videos in it so you have a nice clean
edge around the entire shoe and that’s
how you make a duct tape flip-flop
although you could accuse their videos
of being a bit dry in the style
Department there’s no arguing that there
isn’t an enormous amount of knowledge
bound in their content chainsaw safety
massage techniques a review of the new
Honda Civic or even just a recipe for
noodle kugel and the secret of the
CooCoo are the fine noodles and the
package will be labeled fine noodles or
tiny news essentially this channel is
less of a place where you like the
content and check back frequently and
more of a library of knowledge that you
can consult for almost any question
imaginable
number 9 Steve Ramsey woodworking for
mere mortals after doing a little bit of
everything with the last channel here we
get back to specifics with Steve Ramsey
and his show woodworking for mere
mortals yeah
does woodworking I guess he did guess
you can make this awesome totally cool
spice rack for your home using creep
free pallet wood Steve likes to
emphasize that most of his projects are
very easy and don’t require expert
know-how not only that but he’s a huge
advocate of using repurposed wood or
recycled wood so most of his projects
are ultra budget-friendly even the wood
can be free you can make this and this
and this and this and this and this and
this and this using free pallet wood
those of you that are daunted by the
idea of large projects with power tools
and piles of lumber should know that
Steve’s projects are usually pretty
small cutting boards a silo phone for
your kids and yes of course spice racks
I’m gonna scuff it up a little bit just
to make it look like it’s been around a
while
number eight make next up we have a
channel that’s a lot more tech oriented
from the magazine of the same name we
have a channel full of little projects
for all of those of you that are totally
bummed out that RadioShack is going
under makes YouTube channel features a
wide variety of things from covering
makers conventions to a whole playlist
devoted to model airplanes helicopters
and drones called maker hanger hello and
welcome to maker hanger my name is lucas
weekly and today we’re gonna be going
over what the maker trainer 2 is however
since this is the how-to countdown the
playlist we’re most concerned with is
their weekend projects playlist we hope
you brought your soldering kit in
today’s weekend project we’re gonna turn
a Raspberry Pi into a powerful FM
transmitter with enough range to cover
your home DIY drive-in movie high school
football stadium or bumpin pirate bike
parade the things they teach you how to
make on this playlist aren’t necessarily
difficult but they are quite tech to say
the least
so that means wires soldering irons LEDs
and circuit boards remove the 10 micro
farad capacitor that you used for c3 and
substitute a point 1 micro farad
capacitor so that the lights will flash
fast enough to exceed your persistence
of vision try not to let that dissuade
you though because this stuff is pretty
damn cool number 7
Dave hats at number 7 we come to the
first channel we’ll see today that deals
with life hacks life hacks in case you
don’t speak millennial our little tips
and tricks that make your life easier
these range from how to pack a suitcase
efficiently to how to prevent a pot from
boiling over to how to fold a shirt in
under 2 seconds then close your right
hand over to pick up Point C next
quickly unfold your arms and finally use
the table to fold the shirt back on
itself although the videos don’t gain a
ton of points in the style department
they’re consistently clear well edited
and very well voiced the hosts charming
accent is pretty much the only thing
spicing up the videos but everything has
been shot and edited in a tight
consistent way that makes each one easy
to follow and very easy to understand
then remove the bottoms and take out the
egg
we now have a beautiful heart-shaped egg
pretty cool huh
also as a fun side note the channel also
features a couple of videos of stuff
breaking in slow motion this has
absolutely nothing to do with how to’s
but it’s pretty cool so there’s that
[Music]
number six Kipkay so those of you that
we’re watching the make channel that we
already saw and we’re quite interested
but think the stuff might be a little
bit too advanced should be interested in
our next channel Kipkay his things are
still quite tech oriented but maybe a
little bit easier this channel is
described as a mix of how to life hacks
and pranks and that’s exactly what
you’ll get this is the only channel
we’ve seen that really combines pranks
with how-to videos so now you can
finally make that electro shocking
stapler you’ve always wanted one wire
has been soldered to the bottom metal
and another wire soldered to the top
metal now there’s plastic bushings in
between each that’ll protect it from
making contact until you staple it so I
could go on about all the other random
things he does on his channel but we
should really get to the most important
thing which is lasers he has a whole
playlist devoted to sweet wicked awesome
lasers and the things you can do with
them the combination of blue and purple
it makes for a pretty cool effect
I hesitate to spread this info around
the internet but he has a video that
teaches you how to make a laser that
will light matches and burn plastics so
that’s awesome
number five Howcast at first glance
Howcast is very similar to monkey see
and another channel that we’ll check out
later they cover a little bit of
everything
rather a lot a bit of everything how to
tie a bowtie
how to read tarot cards how to assemble
a bento box nothing too out of the
ordinary here they have a few groups of
videos that are oddly specific fifty
videos on Wing Chun 38 videos on pole
dancing exercises and 40 videos that
deal specifically with Australian slang
for example you might say I love you
heaps and heaps and that’s how you say a
lot in Australia
but there is one topic that floats to
the top when you sort by views and
that’s one topic that’s been severely
neglected so far and that’s sex baby
Saxon see pull away make him come after
you that’s a man’s natural inclination
even physically a woman receives and a
man goes forward sure there’s tons of
videos out there that show you how to
you know make a cutting board or
separate an egg white from an egg but
how many videos are out there that teach
you how to undo a bra with one hand how
about have sex in the workplace without
other people finding out this is
valuable knowledge people and Howcast
it’s here to help it is illegal to put
cameras and restrooms so that’s usually
a safe place
number four householdhacker while they
do say it with me now cover a large
variety of topics householdhacker
generally stays true to their name and
does a lot of life hacks for the
household while some of their videos are
standalone like how to make an air
conditioner for eight bucks a lot of
their recent clips are countdowns such
as 10 things you didn’t know you could
do with your microwave or six uses for
windings
[Music]
one noteworthy thing about their channel
which sort of doubles as a warning is
that some of their videos are meant to
be jokes things like six terrible life
hacks you should never try are things
you probably would never try in the
first place but they’re definitely good
for a chuckle love brushing your teeth
but have nowhere to keep your brush pop
open the trash and grab a soft drink
container put it in place and shove your
brush right in the lid absolute
perfection and dirt cheap to boot so I
know that video with nine million views
that claims to show you how to charge
your phone with an onion looks
interesting but please proceed with
caution and once you get that in there
give it a few seconds for the power to
travel through and your iPod should
power up number three expert village at
number three we have another video that
seeks to be a font of knowledge for
everything under the Sun you think I’m
exaggerating they have a hundred
thousand videos see for yourself hi
everybody my name is gene and I’m a
graphic designer and I’m an illustrator
I’ve been working in the industry for
about 15 years now and we’re gonna talk
a little bit about one of my favorite
subjects stop-motion animation the idea
behind these videos is that each one is
hosted by an expert in the given field
while this certainly makes for a mixed
bag of hosts the level of knowledge they
demonstrate is pretty reliable on top of
this the videos are quite well produced
and edited which lends the whole channel
a level of professionalism and
trustworthiness that’s hard to beat so
in this video we just learned how to
fish with a lead head bait
you’ll have to believe me when I say
they do an innumerable amount of topics
but here are just a few at random how to
change the pixel size on your digital
camera how to measure your dog for the
perfect fitting collar and at least 14
different videos on breast exam
techniques the horizontal method of
breast self-examination is the most
effective way to examine your breasts
number-2 king of random although he
calls himself the king of random a more
fitting name might be king a cool stuff
other channels we’ve seen today are sort
of hard to peg down because they do so
many different things grant Thompson who
hosts this channel seems to always be
doing something that shoots blows up
lights on fire or something equally
awesome back at my makeshift target
range I’m interested to see if the penny
does any better than the airsoft BB’s
and that’s a definite yes as is often
the case with talk to your channels
grants channel is first and foremost
very clean and reliable he publishes
regularly and his videos are very clear
and well produced this means that you
can come back on a semi-regular basis
for new content rather than just ninja
on all of his stuff for one day and
never coming back
I make weekly videos dedicated to
exploring life through all kinds of
projects experiments and real-world life
hacking never that dry factual stuff
let’s take a look at the gnarly shit
that he makes my personal favorite is
the mini crossbow do I really need to
explain why that’s awesome this is super
awesome because now our bullets make a
bang when they impact a hard target of
course this should only be done outdoors
and with adults supervision before we
break ground on our top pick here are
some honorable mentions
[Music]
number one crazy Russian hacker normally
when we get to our top pick we mentioned
that our choice is more consistent more
professional and more clear than
everything we’ve seen so far this is
totally not the case with the crazy
Russian hacker basically I’d be lying if
I said that the Russian hackers videos
are more clear and detailed than the
other entries we’ve seen but that’s part
of the charm the host and his super
thick accent make even trivial
instructions quite entertaining while
he’s explaining the life hacks outlined
in his videos what’s up everybody
welcome back to my boat over safety is
number 13 today I’m gonna show you five
simple experiments let’s check it out
many of the crazy Russian hackers tips
are food related or kitchen related of
these my personal favorites are the ones
that are titled doing it wrong as in
you’ve been eating chicken wings wrong
your whole life you’ve been pouring
juice wrong your whole life or you’ve
been cooking eggs wrong your whole life
but here’s the right way to crack an egg
so you don’t have that problem
pretty much you wanna cock your egg on a
flat surface just like that boom you see
it and then like you know whenever we’re
gonna pull it apart lastly it would be
an omission not to mention that the
crazy Russian hacker also does
improvised science experiments on his
channel while these basically teach you
nothing aside from maybe how flammable
ping pong balls are they’re pretty fun
to watch if only to hear him say don’t
try this at home in his accent today I’m
going to experiment with the thing is
both an aluminum foil kids do not tire
they said home as I mentioned before
this channel isn’t particularly well
produced but it’s just a lot of fun and
the huge amount of subscribers that it
boasts helps to prove this I’d say don’t
try this at home but I guess that’s sort
of the whole idea so just be careful and
have fun and as always not to have this
at home thumbs up this video and I’ll
see you next time well that’s it for our
list by now I’m sure you’re very eager
to start on your laser-guided baking
shooting crossbow so I won’t keep you
too long
