put your hands on your back right now
the line based on a true story has never
hurt so bad
welcome to watchmojo.com and today we’re
counting down our picks for the top 10
worst movies based on real-life events
for this list we’re choosing feature
films as well as made-for-tv movies that
were inspired by real-life but which did
not do justice to their source material
somehow you’re trying to put us out of
business all just wanting to do your job
properly if you can’t someone needs to
pick up the slack number 10
Liz and Dick even when you looked at me
with utter disdain I still thought you
were just luscious life time isn’t
exactly known for oscar-worthy movies
but this one is – soap opera even for
them go away you had it in your
impossible Elizabeth wants to play based
on the tumultuous relationship between
Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton this
made-for-tv movie failed spectacularly
and on a high-profile level thanks to
its status as Lindsay Lohan’s supposed
comeback vehicle
you’re still a star Hey
you are the biggest stuff joke while
some critics admitted the film was
enjoyable on a campy level the acting
and screenplay were almost universally
penned after all any movie with lines
like haven’t lost me I’ve lost you and I
won’t live without you is just asking
for trouble you’re right
this stops now number nine the legend of
the Titanic the truth of the matter is
those missing persons were never really
missing it’s all misunderstanding one of
these days I’ll tell you the whole story
this was not the first bad Titanic based
film and it probably won’t be the last
1980s raised the Titanic was also an
unmitigated disaster
despite its star-studded cast you’re
both a couple of cynics you think this
is some kind of lousy game if I felt
that way sandecker does I wouldn’t have
started the damn project in the first
place but this Italian cartoon came a
couple of years after James Cameron’s
oscar-winning epic and is widely
considered one of history’s worst
animated films does that mean you think
it’ll work
oh boy it will it can’t fail though
2000s Titanic the legend goes on was
almost the exact same movie down to its
Italian origin talking mice and helpful
dolphins the 1999 film edges it out ever
so slightly
honestly the only way we figured out
these were different movies is that one
has a blonde and one has a brunette
number 8 patch Adams
my name is dr. Phil I’ll be your surgeon
oh there you are the real-life story of
a man who discovers that humor can help
patients heal themselves so he becomes a
doctor with Robin Williams as the star
sounds good on paper no it’s too risky
no when you have Luca yeah but this
vehicle failed every medical test it
took and did not tickle our funny bone
if anybody has a problem of this please
just walk away right now
Wow yes though it was a box office
success patch Adams was slammed not only
by critics who said the film was too
sweet and over emotional and Williams to
holier-than-thou but also by the real
patch Adams who flat out said he hated
it yeah I could do it both know you
wouldn’t stop me number 7 World Trade
Center hope that’s gonna help them I’ll
get up there
I gotta say people that high up it’s
impossible you gotta try released a few
months after the critically acclaimed
United 93 Oliver Stone September
eleventh movie lacked the edge and grit
that has marked his past films yeah we
got today oh nice loading docks that
shipment come in from
what though he’s known for focusing on
conspiracy theories and unsolved
mysteries stone leaves these elements
strangely absent when he tells the story
of two Port Authority cops who survived
the collapse of the Twin Towers
though some reviewers praised it many
called it over sentimental and full of
hokey tear-jerking tropes and criticized
it for not showing the big picture of
the terrorist attack little just got out
blocking still in surgery still missing
14 what do we do
thousands of people get back where the
hell are they number 6
the Black Dahlia I lost a lot of things
in life but never a fight for money
Brian De Palma has made some good movies
but this isn’t one of them – cops become
obsessed with the grisly murder of a
young Hollywood actress a case that
remains unsolved to this day imagine the
headlines Construction tycoons daughter
questioned in Dahlia case let’s see it
lesbian nightclub hit the picture
Technicolor based on a real-life crime
as told in a novel by LA Confidential
author James Ellroy this movie features
De Palma’s trademark visual brilliance
as well as an all-star cast I feel it’s
my duty as a friend to tell you this
make it look good
but it also has a confusing and
overstuffed plot a boatload of cliches
and a generally unsatisfying day new mom
great Hollywood we’ll get one no one
else will hey Johnson Gege to smoke
number five
against the ropes you take care of my
bookie no I stalled your bookie and your
ex-wife I also printed out your email
restocked your bar hose-down Mel Harris
numbers top drawer left side all you
have to do is sign off on them it had
been a few years since meg Ryan had made
a successful movie and since she’d shed
her good-girl image thanks to a
high-profile affair with Russell Crowe
Josh McGowan you don’t want this kind of
kaput I’d rather have that kind of kaput
and your kind of stupid and this movie
did not help her bring her out of her
career funk is that why you’re acting
like such a dick she plays real-life
boxing manager Jackie Kallen the ballsy
woman who was the first female to make
it in the industry her impact on boxing
is irrefutable but it’s still a man’s
world a heartless egocentric
self-centered boys club and Jackie
Kallen is its newest member with sports
movie cliches aplenty as well as a
comatose script and Ryan’s iffy Detroit
accent
this one was ko the moment it was
released only making six million dollars
at the box office I don’t want to see
you
at last the feeling is mutual
number four Diana a nuclear submarine I
want to help people it’s still possible
you might be Queen one day like it or
not you’re going to have an army and
navy who will be helping people by –
shut up you’d think an actress of Naomi
Watts caliber would be perfect for a
movie about Princess Diana
but even she couldn’t save a script this
mediocre oh god if you can’t smell the
fragrance the film focuses on Diana’s
last two years when she tries to find
love after her divorce from Prince
Charles but instead of focusing on
character development
it’s schmaltzy bland and a royal mess
all you know about is football and jazz
and saving people’s lives saving lives
that wasn’t on your list miss polymer
the only amusement you get from this
movie is unintentional and in fact it
was soap and in the UK it was released
direct-to-dvd in the United States
ouch somewhere beyond right and wrong
there is a God
I will meet you that number three
Alexander conquer your fear and I
promise you you’ll conquer dad
criticized by fundamentalists historians
reviewers and almost anyone who saw it
this is another failure by Oliver Stone
to tell an historical story in you the
son of Zeus lies the light of the world
your companions will be shadows in the
underworld when you are a name living
forever in history is the most glorious
shining light of youth forever young
forever inspiring never will there be an
Alexander like you Alexander the Great
with a blond Colin Farrel in the title
role Angelina Jolie as his seductive
mother and Anthony Hopkins providing DVD
commentary like narration spring
Alexander marched an army of 150,000
across the passes of the Hindu Kush
into the unknown the film is condemned
not only for being factually inaccurate
but also for not shedding any light on
to Alexander’s personality with far less
action than you’d expect in a movie
about a conqueror it almost plays like a
documentary and has been recut and
re-released so many times we’ve lost
track
number two Pearl Harbor futures not
exactly in our hands is it no I guess
you’re right
Hollywood action director Michael Bay
took the attack on Pearl Harbor and
turned it into an action movie go figure
but in between all the explosions was a
sappy love triangle that did its best to
emulate Titanic as much as possible the
one thing that scares me
you might love him more than you love me
I love you Danny
and I’ll be here waiting for you when
you come back and it was that mix of
action and drama that made it a huge
box-office success however the critics
were not so kind though its effects were
praised and even nominated for an Oscar
it’s clunky dialogue in elegant
direction and blatant historical
inaccuracy were skewered yesterday
December 7th 1941 a date which will live
in infamy the United States of America
was suddenly and deliberately attacked
by naval and air forces of the Empire of
Japan before we unveil our top pick here
are a few honorable or in this case
dishonorable mentions ok go to your room
do what your dad says he’ll do you think
you’re doing what he’s only 15 and that
just about enough of your crap there’s
my belief that when a man becomes a part
of this Bureau you must so conduct
himself both officially and unofficially
as to eliminate even the slightest
possibility of criticism as to his
common step my jacket hmm I’m about to
write a press release on death squads I
wanted to wear something to match the
gravity of the occasion number 1 jobs
it’s a tool for the heart and when you
can touch someone’s heart
that’s limitless while this may surprise
you casting Ashton Kutcher is not what
sunk this movie jobs is a biographical
drama that tells the life story of Steve
Jobs as well as the origin story of his
company Apple Inc I don’t care if HP
didn’t like it in
yeah there’s called potential no The Sex
Pistols had potential this is the wheel
it’s the Industrial Revolution no more
Dex
no more mainframes that changes
everything but it suffers from a
surprising lack of depth meaning it
doesn’t dig into the intricacies of the
man’s personality but instead offers a
superficial and formulaic portrayal of
this enigmatic tech-giant everything is
a pressing issue if we want to make the
fission for Lisa a reality we got to put
in the hours and make something cream it
bombed at the box office and with
critics who gave Kutcher a passing grade
but rated the movie as unsatisfying want
everyone to design something to do I
don’t care what it is I don’t care if
it’s technology just create something
something useful something you care
about do you agree with our list what do
you think is the worst movie based on a
real-life event for more realistic top
10s published every day be sure to
