games and share stories anybody who
watches the show know it’s not a less

Internet Troy and Nolan have worked
their way through plenty of classic
games both good and not so good I don’t
like if I ever met Shaquille O’Neal I
would punch him and before he could

gamer the duo have this to say that I
don’t know man

baseball scholarship that’s right
talented in the voice-over booth and the
baseball diamond Nolan at one point had
a pretty powerful right arm uh yeah I
went to the University of North Carolina
Chapel Hill played baseball and I was a
pitcher I was right-handed pitcher he
may not have been a blue chip prospect
but that doesn’t mean he didn’t get some
attention from the pros like you know
they say if you play a little bit in the
minors that you get a cup of coffee in
the minors they made me a cup of coffee
but they never let me drink any so I had
some interest from the Atlanta Braves
but it’s hard to talk about now because
I had so many friends who actually
played in the pros for many years one
World Series so I’m I don’t want to ever
be that guy now you know walks around on
yeah I used to play a little ball number
seven Troy is the lead singer of window
to the Abbey
not unlike his retro replay co-host
truly also has some talent outside of
voice acting I I’ve been making music my
entire life I even still do it now when
I’m changing my son’s diapers just yeah
I titled them
that was his Wow did you pee in my mouth
nope the baby wasn’t even there after
releasing a random thoughts on a paper
napkin as the lead singer of trip
Fontaine in 2004 Troy didn’t release new
music until his solo album sitting in
the fire in 2014
really it’s kind of been this community
that’s been really the most supportive
and the most receptive to it it’s given
me a reason to make more music and be
excited about putting it out because I
can sit here in my room and and banging
away at a piano or guitar I make a lot
of music but when I hear how something
that I did affects
somebody else and they’re like yeah
that’s how I felt or I felt the same way
that to me is the reason why we make
music his new band window to the abbey
put out their first album moving around
bias in 2017 at the end of the day this
is all just us trying to tell a story
and whether it’s us doing music or it’s
making games or playing games and
telling our stories that’s what this
whole thing is all about for me so we
can be looking forward to the diaper
series diaper diaper albums coming out

Nolan won a BAFTA Award so I am honored
to be presenting you with this special
award for outstanding contribution in
since they began honoring outstanding
creative achievement in video games in
2004 the BAFTA Awards haven’t been too
kind to try and Nolan Troy and I both
have been nominated three to three times
and both of us have lost three times yes
but that all changed in 2018 when Nolan
finally took one home sorta I was didn’t
win one I was presented with one you
earned one still well that’s nice of you
to say but it’s funny because you know
say hey you weren’t a Baptist
no one was recognized and received a
special award for outstanding
contribution to video game performance
all I remember joking about it like it
was like lifetime achieving I’m like
does this mean I have to retire and quit
it’s like kiss doing you know a farewell
tour they’ve been doing farewell tours
for 20 years really hey I’m still doing
this like thank you so much this is your
lifetime achievement you’ll never do
anything better than this yeah you
should probably stop while the otter is
certainly an incredible achievement it
certainly hasn’t wiped away the memories
of past losses we were at the Baptist
together when I was nominated left for
uncharted 4 and everybody kind of
figured I’m a lock you know you almost
because of like hey he’s done for these
we he’s been nominated the other time we
kind of gotta gotta give him one and my
wife and Troy your wife is next next to
them behind right behind me and they
come up to the award and the cameras
come right over to me
right and you know that Loeb shot and
I’m just trying to just make sure my
face doesn’t look stupid and Troy leans
in he grabs my shoulders and he said you
got it and as he grabs my shoulders says
you got it buddy the guy with the camera
ran over to one of the other nominees I
went I just lured I went it’s not gonna
happen
and we’re both nominated and it’s like
Troy Baker they show my thing up and it
was like everyone’s applauding you know
and then there’s a nolan north was the
last one that they show and everyone’s
applauding he’s just sitting there he’s
being very gracious and I was like here
we go buddy and no one just goes it’s
not happening anyway number five Troy
was the director of performance capture
for Middle Earth shadow of war as
tallien in Middle Earth shadow of Mordor
Troy delivered what many consider to be
one of his best performances for the
sequel shadow of war
Troy reprised his role but added some
additional responsibilities on the
project as well so when they announced
that we were gonna do a second one I
said kind of meet with you guys and I
went up to Seattle and I sat down with
monolith and and they were trying to
figure out who they were gonna get to
direct this game and I said what you
need you don’t need a coach you’ve got a
great coach and I looked on this white
board behind me and the entire game had
been laid out I was like you don’t need
a coach you need a quarterback because
the coach is calling the plays and the
quarterback is the one that’s with those
other 11 men on the field executing
those plays and moving the ball down the
field what if that was me and they were
like you want to do you want to be the
lead in this game and director was like
let’s let’s do a test and see if it
works and we did as the director of
performance capture Troy gained a lot of
perspective on what it takes to create
games after I talked him into it
I immediately regretted it I remember
calling Neil druckmann and I was like yo
I think I might have bitten off more I
can chew give any help and he’s like no
hey you’re stupid and he said here’s
what you do your goal is to just learn
something and if you can walk away from
this at the end of it say what I really
learned a lot you’ll you’ll have one
it’s about everybody that’s there that’s
trying to move this massive machine
towards something that is enjoyable and
able to be experienced
by a group of people I learned a lot and
I loved it I want to make games that’s
all I want to do I don’t view it as a
stepping stone I want to I want to want
to make games I want to do this this I’m
gonna make games and make music and
change poopy diapers
Troy even got to direct Nolan on the
project when you’re directed by a friend
who kind of knows you and knows you know
we have unwritten or a short thanks for
then I like that I couldn’t complete
this number for Nolan worked as a
reporter after attending graduate school
at Emerson College no one spent some
time as a journalist in New Jersey
before moving to New York to pursue
acting
honestly in interviews it really does
help a lot of times because you know
especially when we’re doing like a
junket or anything with a lot of people
you do have to try to give them the
soundbite we got three minutes with you
before have to go over here and
sometimes you just have to give that
there’s a few things a bite and a button
give me a bite give me a button yeah all
in you media has always helped us in our
careers so we try to give good things
back without saying anything that ruins
our career and that was the bite which I
am this close to doing every interview
and that was the button number three
Troy is the only actor to play both
Batman and the Joker plenty of talented
actors of voice Batman and his iconic
arch nemesis the Joker but Troy Baker
breeds rarified air as the only actor to
have played both characters yeah and I
get to do it in the same thing now did
you know that I didn’t know that what
Batman we’re doing a Batman Teenage
Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover and I get
to play Batman and the Joker in the same
thing that’s pretty awesome
whatever they are they’re going to
regret stepping foot and Gotham
[Laughter]
when we asked Troy whether it was harder
playing Batman or the Joker his answer
surprised us but it’s like it’s a
concoction of Adam West and Keaton and a
little bit of Christian Bale sprinkled
on top this is kind of that so I mean
it’s Batman’s the harder one to do
actually for me because Joker I got one
mode
it’s people like you’re doing a great
Mark Hamill impersonation I’m like to me
I’m just doing the Joker mark is a dear
friend and I bow down to him and to this
day anytime someone comes to me and says
don’t play The Joker is like sure if you
ask mark first because if he says no
then I’m all for it number two no one
used to do ADR for Christopher Walken if
you watch retro replay then you are all
too familiar with Nolan’s impeccable
Walken impression twas the night before
Christmas right we’re all through the
house not a creature was stirring not
even a mouse but did you know he’s
recorded actual ADR for the man himself
yeah I did about six Christopher what
six seven really seven Christopher
Walken movies I actually boost him he’s
also added dialogue for other famous
movie stars as well John Travolta Sam
Shepard oh I did Sam Shepard in the
movie why yeah I had the cover I don’t
remember the movie it happens a lot
because they’re not available and it’s
too costly to bring them to a studio to
record these things if you aren’t
familiar with ADR it stands for
automated dialogue replacement and is
also known as looping it involves
recording new dialogue after principal
production is wrapped and inserting it
during the editing process movie clicked
is my favorite I did two lines but one
of them was weird when Adam Sandler’s
old and he’s walking out as he walks out
Christopher Walken’s leaning against I
think a Coke machine and he goes Michael
don’t do this and it was too long of an
edit before he got to the door and
opened the door and ran out and the
director said I just need one little
light I just want you to say Michael
doesn’t have been like this Michael it
doesn’t happen
yeah and I got residuals father you know
Wow
number one they combined for over 300
video game credits we asked Roy Nolan if
they could guess how many video game
credits they have between the two of
them closes out going over I’m gonna go
589 444 the real number was a little
smaller than they thought
but is nonetheless an incredible
achievement really
we gotta get to work we have vastly
overrated our careers man I thought I
was I thought it was something to watch
