Top 10 Things “The Dirt” Got Factually Right and Wrong

in a movie this over-the-top some things
have got to be made up right oh my god
those are my pants mom they look so much
before we begin we publish new content
every day so be sure to subscribe to our
Channel and ring the bell to get
notified about our latest videos for
this list we’re taking a look at facts
and yeah not so much facts from the very
lewd illicit and wild 2019 motley crew
biopic the dirt I had been dragged
through the deepest shit with all kinds
but I have never been through what
motley crue put me through number 10
Nikki Sixx getting the rights back to
Motley Crue’s music was easy false
you’re never gonna live up to this deal
you you know that right in the movie
bassist and songwriter Nikki Sixx tells
Elektra Records executive Tom suit out
that he wants the label to give Motley
Crue back the rights to their music
not too long after suit out informs him
that he now owns all the publishing
rights and how about you give us back
the rights to our music and we’ll call
it even
what are you even asking well in reality
getting the rights to their masters back
only occurred after the band’s seventh
album generation swine proved to be a
financial failure additionally suit out
no longer worked for the label at that
point so he had nothing to do with it
securing the rights was no easy feat
either with six in the band effectively
going to war with music executive Sylvia
Rhone and eventually cutting a deal
number nine that party trick true and
after the shows they brought the party
to our place
a family film the dirt is not the
opening scene sees the band introduced
in raucous fashion Nikki Sixx is on fire
Vince Neil is having sex with another
man’s girlfriend in the bathroom and
Tommy Lee pleasures his girlfriend in
front of the entire party the latter is
actually based on a real person who was
known for a certain ability she even had
a nickname
Bullwinkle which was apparently a
reference to her how should we say this
unique appearance whether or not she
ever performed in front of an entire
party is unclear but she definitely
existed number eight Vince Neil was the
band’s first lead singer balls the dirt
would have you believe that Nikki Sixx
Tommy Lee and Mick Mars jammed together
once realized they needed a lead singer
and found Vince Neil the next day the
truth is a little more complicated the
band was briefly fronted by odine
Peterson who Lee claims had quote a
voice somewhere between Ian Astbury of
the cult and Klaus mine of the Scorpions
despite his obvious Talent
Peterson didn’t possess the style or
attitude that would come to define the
other members of motley crew as such he
was booted from the band and the movie
numbers on the front call us lay see you
soon number 7
Tommy Lee was abusive true what why
would you say that the dirt mostly
portrays Tommy Lee is a fun-loving
miscreant who wild wild was just really
an overgrown kid who loved to party
however it also properly shows his much
darker and violent side while on tour
Tommy gets into an argument with his
fiancee Roxy it culminates with him
assaulting her effectively ending their
relationship in reality the woman’s name
was honey and the incident occurred in a
limo not a tour bus but it is
fundamentally true honey had been
calling Lee’s mother an unpleasant word
and when he’d had enough he kicked her
out of the limo when she started to hit
him he punched her in the face knocking
number six doc McGee’s tattoo false well
I believe in you guys look one of the
film’s funniest moments occurs when band
manager Doc McGhee reveals he’s gotten a
tattoo to commemorate Motley Crue’s
third album entertainment or death
however he is quickly informed that the
title of the album has been changed to
the theater of pain luckily for the real
Doc McGhee this never happened the same
cannot be said for Doug Thaler
McGee’s partner who is only briefly
referenced in the film he did get an
entertainment or death tattoo only to be
told the name of the album had changed
the band did eventually use the name for
their 1999 live album providing Thaler
with a small amount of closure
get some rest buddy number five Nikki
Sixx called the police on his mother
true Nikki Sixx’s childhood was troubled
to say the least
in the film we see him get into an
argument with his mother that leads to
him stabbing himself in the arm this is
based on a real event that occurred when
six was in his teens his plan was to
frame his mother for the attack to have
her sent to prison while he did call the
police on her he chose not to press
charges after the cops informed him that
he’d have to spend the rest of his
childhood in a juvenile home instead six
left home moving to Los Angeles at the
age of 17 is that what you want number
four the band met Vince Neil at a pool
chicks the way the film depicts the
first meeting between singer Vince Neil
and the rest of the band is completely
fictional first off Neil is singing my
kind of lover by Billy Squier a song
that hadn’t even been released yet
second the meeting actually took place
at the Starwood a Hollywood nightclub
and music venue furthermore the film
would have you believe that Neil
acquiesced to the band’s request
immediately in reality it took several
weeks of them doggedly pursuing him
before he agreed to jam with them you
see you man I’m in a band now dude those
guys right there
oh and livewire the song they perform
together in Nikki’s apartment yeah it
had not been written yet
number three Nikki Sixx overdosed and
died for two minutes true in his book
the heroin diaries a year in the life of
a shattered rock star Nikki Sixx says
quote alcohol acid cocaine they were
just Affairs when I met heroin it was
true love on December 23rd 1987 six
overdosed on the drug he awoke inside an
ambulance after having been clinically
dead for two minutes in order to save
his life the paramedics had to inject
him with not one but two shots of
adrenalin straight to the heart this is
essentially how it’s depicted in the
film however unlike in the film Neil did
not find out about it via television he
number two the band desperately wanted
Vince Neil back false I just want to
talk if any that’s it in the film singer
Vince Neil quits the band and is
replaced by John kuraby
however the new lineup fails to connect
with audiences and 6li and Mars decide
to bring Neil back in real life the
reunion was nothing like that
for starters Motley Crue was planning on
moving ahead with a new album with
kuraby as its lead singer they only sat
down with Neil at the behest of their
managers and it was hardly the gushy
scene depicted in the film we love you
then the meeting was held at a hotel and
everyone involved had their lawyers
present
did agree to rejoin the band but only
after hearing the record they’ve been
working on before we unveil our number
one pick here are some honorable
mentions I should talk to him right yeah
it was badass dude the show nothing
knows but let’s get back to uh you know
what I was talking about so uh what do
you guys say do you do you want a record
deal are you okay
happy I’m fine yeah let’s get you back
to bed come on
number one Ozzy Osbourne and the
gross-out contest true I gotta hand it
to you on all these years and you still
keeping up with us kids one of the dirts
most memorable scenes involves Ozzy
Osbourne and Nikki Sixx engaging in some
truly debaucherous behavior the Black
Sabbath frontman snorts a line of ants
and will licks up a puddle of his own
urine encouraging six to do the same as
disgusting as the scene was it is
apparently authentic at least it is if
you trust Nikki Sixx who wrote in the
Motley Crue autobiography that it
happened exactly as it’s depicted in the
film Osbourne on the other hand has been
quoted as saying quote I have got
absolutely no recollection of doing that
is a drink do you agree with our picks
