Top 10 Most Generous Philanthropists

give it away give it away give it away
now well I suppose I’m lucky enough to
be in a position where hopefully I can
make a small difference in in different
areas welcome to watchmojo.com and today
we’re counting down our picks for the
top ten philanthropists George is more
focused on philanthropy he is a
foundation promoting democracy around
the world and he’s a big supporter of
left-wing causes for this list we’re
focusing on philanthropists that have
money to give which means that someone
like mother Teresa didn’t make the cut
also we’re excluding individuals like
Prince Alwaleed bin Talal and Ted Turner
who have committed to donating their
fortunes upon their death this list is
all about those who dedicate their lives
to philanthropy we never get out on a
limb Ron we always have lots of money we
never borrow a lot of money number 10
Mark Zuckerberg
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and his
wife were the most generous American
philanthropist last year as the
co-founder and chief executive of the
social media phenomenon that is Facebook
this man has pocketed a few bucks over
the years all right more like 38 billion
as of mid-2015 we’ll be working with
UNHCR to bring the Internet to refugee
camps however when all is said and done
Mark Zuckerberg has pledged to donate
half of his earnings to charity through
a campaign known as The Giving Pledge
there are those who already are
comparing Mark Zuckerberg to the likes
of Warren Buffett and Bill Gates when it
comes to their influence on society the
guy is barely over 30 years old but he’s
long been a steadfast advocate of
philanthropy as he offered up 18 million
Facebook shares to the Silicon Valley
Community Foundation in 2013 close to 1
billion dollars in worth and he’s
donated millions to fight Ebola abroad
don’t be jealous of Mark Zuckerberg be
grateful for him all right
here we go
that was really cool number nine
Paul Allen known I would actually dive
in the dumpsters to try to find listings
of the secret inner code of the
operating system along with Bill Gates
this Seattle native formed Microsoft
back in the mid-1970s and like a loyal
local boy should Paul Allen formed an
organization to give back to the Pacific
Northwest one of Paul’s earliest
philanthropic projects was the
establishment of the experience music
project which is a nonprofit museum
based in Seattle that explores American
popular culture with a particular
emphasis on music not only has the Paul
G Allen Family Foundation transformed
young lives through hundreds of millions
of dollars in donations but the men
behind it all has also made it a
personal passion to support nonprofits
whether it’s in the arts science
technology or education and because of
his investment we’re connecting so many
more artists to so many more people
and because of that we’re bringing more
music into people’s lives
another supporter of The Giving Pledge
Alan continues to change the world by
allowing creative individuals to grow
through his financial support Paul Allen
says he’ll donate at least 100 million
dollars to help fight the spread of
Ebola in what’s believed to be the
largest private foundation pledged so
far to the cause
number 8 George Kaiser I don’t want to
be on this earth exclusively to
accumulate resources but to make
something happen that otherwise would
not have happened that helps live to
somebody else
Oklahoma born and harvard-educated
here’s a man that puts his money where
his mouth is
after all he’s one of the wealthiest
individuals in the world but while he’s
not obligated to essentially give
everything away he still does and he
does it for the children so what we’re
trying to do is generate funding to
improve the quality of that daycare
experience so that there is an
educational component B it poverty or
education George Kaiser lifts the
spirits of the nation’s younger
generation while kicking back emotional
and financial support to Oklahoma’s
Jewish Community Memorial and to other
Oklahoma schools receiving this grant
are expected to increase passing scores
in Advanced Placement maths science and
English by 253 percent over the next
three years he’s not necessarily worried
about making the news because of his
philanthropy as he understands the
bigger picture that afflicts
poverty-stricken families and is a very
private person who shuns publicity the
200 million dollar Park will include
about 20 different elements there will
be a boathouse a pond a children’s play
area and one of my favorites a Four
Seasons Garden the project is mostly
funded by the George Kaiser Family
Foundation a nonprofit group number
seven the Walton family our company is
built on people the success we’ve had is
because of our people in 1960s Arkansas
a couple of gents named bud and Sam
Walton created an empire and decades
later their relatives have carried on
the tradition of discount goods and
time philanthropy as of 2015 there are
six Waltons dispersing the family
fortune and yes they are all
billionaires each and every one of them
in the late 1980s my grandparents Sam
and Helen Walton were really interested
in giving back to their community as
they started to look at what are the
significant issues that are facing our
country education came to the forefront
of that
however in 1988 the Walton family
foundation was formed and the family has
since devoted their riches to the state
of Arkansas along with the Delta region
as a whole that is one of the groups
helping build the Razorback Greenway
from Fayetteville up to vet and Ville
in fact Alice Walton opened the Crystal
Bridges Museum of American Art which has
received one billion in funding from the
Walton family art wasn’t accessible to
me as a child and I hope that changes
now for people throughout this region
number six Richard Branson lion doesn’t
come to you so go to eat he’s the
founder of the Virgin Group he’s a
world-renowned daredevil and he’s a
modern boss of Big Boi donations for
everybody around
in Somalia but 15,000 times if you just
give us whisper how bad you want worth a
cool five billion dollars Sir Richard
Branson navigates the world in style and
he once presented a rather unique
concept to Nelson Mandela who embraced
the man’s advice by creating the elders
a group of humanitarian world leaders
people who died dying of starvation and
so you know the absolute key is to try
to try to get these conflicts result
branson’s a founding sponsor for the
International Center for Missing and
Exploited Children and when most men his
age are thinking about retirement he
remains an advocate for international
human rights while lending financial
support to the appropriate outlets they
call him old beardy and he’s a living
legend of philanthropy so if possible
show your support and you’ll be changing
people’s lives for the better anyway see
you on Centre Court number five George
Soros here is Gates is set up a good
foundation right competent people why
should I go through the same pain I give
them the market born in Budapest Hungary
this man survived a Nazi occupation as a
teenager and proceeded to develop his
business skills at the London School of
Economics as the communist regime
started to collapse I got sucked into a
revolutionary transition and I ended up
setting up foundations in some 30
countries and they did a lot of good I
think today he’s the chairman of the US
investment firm known as Soros Fund
management and he’s done quite well for
himself amassing a couple billion
dollars times 12
still kicking at his old age Soros has
donated approximately one-third of his
worth to charity since the early 80s
most notably in South Africa and Soviet
states when you’ve lived a life like
George Soros well then you know that
every dollar counts so
think that I have got my ID ultimate
truth because if I did that would be
contradicting my own beliefs number four
Warren Buffett Margaret will be a hero
to many young entrepreneurs 20 years
from now approximately 50 years older
than Mark Zuckerberg this middle
American has often been recognized as oh
the wealthiest person in the world he
developed his business game through an
Ivy League education and as the CEO of
Berkshire Hathaway Warren Buffett has
joined the young Facebook CEO in
committing to The Giving Pledge while
holding the belief that his kids should
live a comfy life but should not have
enough money to be lazy I think a
philanthropic family on balance I mean
there’s all kinds of exceptions but a
philanthropic family on balance is going
to feel better about themselves in their
progeny than a family that you know has
been hanging on to every single penny
he’s committed millions to the nuclear
threat initiative and he’s gone on
record about donating his fortune to the
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation you
got to
Hey
I’m at your arm
number three Michael Bloomberg this is
the freest city in the world that’s what
makes New York special and different and
strong two months after the 9/11 attacks
this man was elected mayor of New York
City and served for the next eleven
years education business philanthropy is
still about people looking each other in
the eye listening to each other working
collaboratively and collectively and
while this would be a major
accomplishment for any harvard-educated
business mogul he’s become well known
for his charity group Bloomberg
philanthropies which centers on five key
areas Public Health the arts government
innovation environment and education
essentially the foundation for a
progressive America tobacco kills is no
denying that but by focusing on
life-saving strategies we really can
make a difference and the difference
here is saving lives he’s not afraid to
give it all away and we know this
because that’s what he does
year after year after year just ask the
850 charities that have received a
couple billion dollars of bloomberg
donations stand up for the rights of
others and in some ways it’s even more
important than standing up for your own
rights
number two Andrew Carnegie upon moving
to the United States from his native
Scotland in 1848 an adolescent Andrew
Carnegie nabbed his first job and
realized the potential of his new land
along came the Industrial Revolution and
is one of the men who truly shaped
America Carnegie amassed a fortune that
he continuously pumped back into the
economy he even went so far as to write
a gospel the Gospel of wealth which was
the 19th century version of The Giving
Pledge of course it was the original
pledge and this man set the standard for
billionaire philanthropists as he
donated approximately 90 percent of his
earnings to a new America before we
unveil our number one pick here are some
honorable mentions I’m just turning over
on
stole my money now and threw my will and
I think the most important thing is your
the way you treat other people that we
you love one another but by the way it’s
not just Google dot or it must glue a
lot of work together with all of you can
really make Internet access information
access Universal that’s the most
important this is not a money-making
things although one I know when they see
seventy seven thousand fans she’s that
wealth is really quite of money I’m so
blessed and I and I just felt a
responsibility to be a better person
number one Bill and Melinda Gates our
naivete is is pretty incredible when we
look back on it but we had a certain
enthusiasm that that would be the phase
the post Microsoft phase as previously
mentioned Bill Gates was a co-founder of
Microsoft and he’s long been on record
about his admiration for our number two
entry Andrew Carnegie along with David
Rockefeller with the American
forefathers serving as his model for
philanthropy bill and his wife Melinda
formed the Bill and Melinda Gates
Foundation in 2000 which is undoubtedly
the 21st century model for all major
philanthropists as they’ve graciously
donated nearly thirty billion dollars to
charity as of 2013 and in a new digital
world Bill and Melinda Gates are able to
effectively organize the world’s most
influential moguls to promote a better
way of life across the globe that was
both poop water absolutely
we’re unbelievable Bill Gates I can’t
believe you hit that to me gosh really
that was it yeah but that’s just pure as
any water you’ve ever had do you agree
with our list we’re running it together
