Top 10 Great Movies That Are Kind Of Boring

great acting well written scripts and
beautiful cinematography make for
amazing movies but in some cases they
are amazingly boring as well somehow I
expected not welcome to watchmojo.com
and today we’re counting down our picks
for the top ten masterpieces that are
kind of boring it’s not the way we
thought it would be is it for this list
we’re looking at some of the top rated
most critically acclaimed and
well-received movies of all time
however due to things like their length
editing pacing high-concept
or subdued soundtracks it can be pretty
hard to get through in one sitting for
today’s audiences like your last words
to be worth a hatred number 10 Lawrence
of Arabia no diving it’s going to be fun
you wouldn’t normally associate a movie
that features a cocky soldier as the
protagonist guerrilla warfare and an
adventure across the desert with the
phrase snoozefest take it from me for
ordinary men it’s a burning fiery
furnace in addition to those exciting
elements Lawrence of Arabia also boasted
an all-star cast and was nominated for
10 Academy Awards winning seven you may
not have known which we certainly had
suspicions
maybe it’s the numerous dialogue heavy
scenes the drawn-out shots the expanse
of desert and sand everywhere or maybe
it’s the almost four hour runtime
look matters at all but this
biographical account of TE Lawrence
delivers both expert filmmaking as well
as a few yawns
shouldn’t offices
use that initiative at all times number
nine Blade Runner got the wrong guy pal
this sci-fi thriller was well-received
by critics and the general public the
action scenes are intense the character
is engaging and the Futurist accepts eye
catching however the dimly lit scenes
with long drawn-out explanations about
the replicants and their fake memories
make for an uneven pace overall implants
those aren’t your memories there’s
somebody else’s when you add in the drab
and gloomy atmosphere created it makes a
perfect dystopian future but it also
makes the movie a bit difficult to sit
through without dozing off once or twice
teased number eight dead man walking
show some respect
I shall respect you coz you a nun you
with that little cross around your neck
because I’m a person every person
deserves respect a nun hoping to offer
solace a killer seeking redemption and
time running out on death row make up
the plot to this crime drama the
captivating story was perfectly acted by
Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn both
delivering performances that drew
audiences in and produced an array of
thoughts and emotions Helen last thing
you see this face
while the intercut scenes of the
killer’s crime are intense
and unnerving the movie is also filled
with lengthy dialogue and dark overtones
which at times are tedious to watch
number 7 Close Encounters of the Third
Kind Ronny I need you to see something
with me it’s really important as it was
nominated for multiple Academy Awards
and won one for Best Cinematography it’s
not hard to see why this Steven
Spielberg movie is considered
sci-fi masterpiece while the visual
effects of the UFOs are stunning for the
time they are often intermixed with long
interactions between the characters or
landing moments of silence and pauses
making the overall flow of the movie
uneven this is don’t be surprised if you
find yourself alternating from being on
the edge of your seat do being asleep in
it or absent mindedly playing with your
potatoes number six boy would
one-two-three-four-five to say this
movie’s creation required dedication and
that the result was groundbreaking would
be an understatement
but it’s like a preordained slob it’s
already got your name and number on it
to say that it’s also a bit of a snoozer
would be equally spot-on it’s abstract
okay okay that’s good see that’s I
didn’t I didn’t I didn’t know that this
Richard Linklater movie took over twelve
years to shoot and nearly as many to
watch as it chronicles the journey of a
boy to adulthood this series of
milestones getting married having kids
getting divorced much of the movies
almost three-hour runtime consists of
dialogue and what some might describe as
mundane everyday tasks which makes the
film a believable depiction of Mason’s
life but it also feels unending so we
should just let it happen more natural
number 5 Gandhi in this cause I too am
prepared to die but my friend there is
no cause for which I am prepared to kill
another biographical account on our list
this film won multiple Academy Awards
and drew in audiences with its emotional
and epic depiction of the life of
Mahatma Gandhi I’m an Indian traveling
in my own country I see no reason for
trouble while many of the speeches are
grossing and the overall tone and
delivery of the lines are in keeping
with historical accounts of the events
and the men the pace itself is slow
throughout much of the movie fortunately
such news comes very slowly to a
relative this is one film that is pretty
tough to stay alert and engaged
throughout you know the sacrifice people
have made never get the same commitment
again every number for Casablanca is
looking at you kid as it’s arguably one
of the most popular and oft quoted
movies on our list it’s hard to imagine
Casablanca being described as boring but
it kind of is you despise me don’t you
how do I give you any thought I probably
wouldn’t there are some great lines but
much of the movies dialog is a bit dry
and drawn-out my health I came to
Casablanca for the waters the waters but
Porter’s we’re in the desert I was
misinformed the plot itself flows well
the actors are excellent the
cinematography is inspiring and in the
context of when it was made its contents
is thrillingly controversial escape from
a concentration camp the Nazis have been
chasing him all over Europe this is the
end of the chase but overall not much
happens aside from the central romantic
drama especially considering the big
baddies in the film are the Nazis the
whole world crumbling with this time to
fall in love yeah it’s pretty bad timing
while the movie is still a must-see for
any film buff don’t feel bad if you
catch yourself stifling a yawn or two of
all the gin joints in all the towns in
all the world
she walks into mine number three Citizen
Kane there’s nothing like a good mystery
tube or an audience well at least that’s
the case with this cinematic masterpiece
alright we should point out but it’s not
really fair to compare a movie like
Citizen Kane to the movies of today
because without Orson Welles magnum opus
we wouldn’t have many of the greatest
films ever there’s only one person in
the world to decide what I’m gonna do
and that’s me be that as it may
despite an excellent cast a phenomenal
script and revolutionary filmmaking
techniques some of the flashbacks seem
more like pointless filler than
necessary plot points that’s a mistake
that will be corrected one of these days
add to that the slowness of many of the
conversations and the mystery of just
what rosebud is becomes a little less
riveting people will think what I tell
them to think number two Gone with the
Wind going to leave me I’m going to live
through this and when it’s all over
again with 13 Oscar nominations and
eight wins there is no denying this film
is a masterpiece
however it also ranks up there in
boredom factor that’s your misfortune
while it remains iconic it’s news factor
may be directly correlated with the fact
that Gone with the Wind doesn’t hold up
well today no I don’t think I will kiss
you although you need kissing badly
that’s what’s wrong with you you should
be kissed and often and by someone who
knows how the musical score was
masterful when it was first released and
while it’s still beautiful it almost
lols audiences to sleep as a plays in
the background despite multiple quotable
lines the rest of the dialogue
vacillates between over-the-top and
overly long never mind about loving me
you’re a woman sending a soldier to his
death with a beautiful memory
it
kiss me and speaking of overly long the
film’s runtime is 221 minutes without
the overture intermission on track and
exit music
[Music]
so you’re forgiven for not giving a damn
by the end frankly my dear I don’t give
a damn
before we unveil our number one pick
here are some honorable mentions I can’t
concentrate on on British mercantile law
I don’t care about British mercantile
law I might not even want to be a lawyer
I knew you would you would have bad eyes
like me pride him oh the same but you in
water Dennis it’s what we got now he’s
broke back now he wears a turban no you
see if he wears a tougher
he’s Seco I’ll probably marry him
that’s something
number one 2001 a Space Odyssey
[Music]
Stanley Kubrick’s films are renowned for
their symbolism depth and ingenuity but
aside from being dynamic and
spellbinding a few have their boring
moments as well
[Music]
whether the film is depicting the search
for meaning in a scandalous affair as an
Eyes Wide Shut do you think that’s funny
or man’s evolution across time and space
as in 2001 tedium is bound to arise at
some point hello how do you read me you
read me how much of a Space Odyssey two
and a half hour run time centers around
one man and the soft-spoken monotone Hal
9000 which makes for quite a few long
and seemingly uneventful scenes
that’s a very nice rendering day I think
you’ve improved a great deal and you
hold it a bit closer the movie does pay
off in a major way that is if you’re
still awake to see it do you agree with
our list
which masterful movie bore you to tears
