usually videogames follow pretty simple
storylines whether it’s saving the
princess or preventing humanity’s
untimely destruction sometimes however
the plots of video games are so
convoluted and confusing they make our
brains hurt welcome to watchmojo.com and
today we’ll be counting down our picks
for the top 10 confusing video game
plots yes but that alone is insufficient
beware although we’re not a hundred
percent sure what’s going on there’s
definitely a few spoilers in here so
please be warned
start running I’ll keep them busy
number 10 half-life 2 Gordon Freeman let
me get a look at you man instead of
having cutscenes to explain the game’s
premise half-life 2 puts you right into
the action immersing you in a dystopian
setting that is frankly rather
complicated I wish I could do more than
keep an eye on you have lights always
been about visual storytelling but a
large part of the game’s premise is
relegated to bits of dialogue spoken by
NPCs that are really easy to miss hey
listen and if you played the first game
questions concerning the circumstances
of how characters such as Barney dr.
kleiner or Eli even survived the black
mesa event and evaded the combine up
until the events of half-life 2 are
never really explained it seems as if
you only just arrived number 9 Sonic the
Hedgehog long time no see I’m glad
you’re here remember when the Sonic
games were just about freeing your
animal buddies from the clutches of dr.
Robotnik and ensuring that he didn’t get
the all-powerful Chaos Emeralds chaos
cut halt apparently Sega didn’t think
that was convoluted enough so for the
2006 Sonic the Hedgehog reboot slash
sequel they decided to up the ante with
a story rife with plot holes involving
time travel paradoxes and a human
kissing a hedgehog
we just have to ask why Sehgal why you
had such a good thing going with those
straightforward platformers why do I
feel dizzy
number eight Kingdom Hearts series I
don’t know about any game but can I help
when you take two massive storied
franchises and combine them to make a
new series there’s a solid chance that
things are gonna get a bit confusing
well take care of this fight despite the
fact that these games are super
exposition heavy the muddled plot is
made all the more perplexing by the fact
that the series jumps from console to
console seemingly at random you don’t
know me well still trying to tell the
difference between this guy and that guy
when this guy isn’t thinking he’s
another guy when the real guy is
actually someone else at hoc crap what’s
that supposed to mean number 7 killer 7
do you want to hear a story Harmon
suda51 is known for making games without
rage as characters and far-fetched plots
and nowhere is this more apparent than
in killer 7 this time the game is mine
at first the game storyline seems
straightforward telling the story of a
terrorist group disrupting a new era of
peace a new generation of children will
bring order to this age however as the
game progresses the player is presented
with several plot twists and the story
goes completely off the rails delving
into a tale of conspiracy world politics
and the supernatural that only barely
makes sense by the game’s ending it’s
changed to the silent
just like a PDA number six Chrono Cross
as the sequel to one of the most beloved
RPGs of all time Chrono Trigger it was
expected that Chrono Cross would match
its predecessors memorable moving and
relatively easy to follow storyline in
Chrono Cross instead of focusing on the
adventures of seven characters like in
the prequel there are alternate
realities time jumping and literally
dozens of characters to keep track of
many of which don’t add a whole lot to
the game’s overarching narrative at
least the game’s cutscenes and graphics
were pretty enough to distract you from
the meandering storyline
number five final fantasy 13 it is time
the people await your address if you
make it to the final boss of a videogame
and you can’t say who exactly you’re
fighting and why then the game’s plot is
probably too convoluted for its own good
this ain’t the time to be reloaded lady
you too huh enter Final Fantasy 13 a
game that many players found to be a
step back for the famous GA RPG
franchise huh largely due to its vague
character development really confusing
storyline and bloated dialogue that was
chock-full of plot holes how do I put
this even the release of a sequel
couldn’t help clear up the events of
Final Fantasy 13 they’re gone aren’t
they
number 4 Resident Evil series Leon what
are you doing here zombies are really
simple people have brains zombies want
to eat them it really doesn’t get much
more straightforward than that but for
every splattered zombie head it seems
that Resident Evil likes to balance it
out with a bizarre plot twist
Jill is still alive the early games in
the Resident Evil franchise weren’t too
complicated but after so many entries in
the series it has become difficult to
keep all the plot lines in check we’re
running out of time
by the time Resident Evil 5 and
Revelations rolled around the attempts
to come up with new stuff while
simultaneously maintaining the old was a
bit too much to handle Wesker are alive
number 3 Bayonetta I’ve no time to play
games with you although it’s known for
its action-packed gameplay it’s doubtful
that anyone plays Bayonetta for its plot
as trying to follow the game story is
found to drive you nuts
well then adios the games developers
clearly wanted to make a game that was
bizarre and over-the-top in all respect
and they certainly didn’t hold back and
your point is
who is Bayonetta why was he resurrected
20 years ago from the bottom of a lake
why is she fighting deities who is that
little girl that looks like her why are
her guns named after a Simon and
Garfunkel song
you’re absolutely
shanell number two BioShock Infinite
City at the bottom of the ocean
ridiculous with incredible graphics an
inventive setting and exhilarating
gameplay there are plenty of things to
distract the player from the fact that
the story of BioShock Infinite and its
ending in particular is pretty damn
confusing who are with time loops
multiple dimensions and different
versions of the same characters from
alternate realities the tangled and
labyrinthine plot of BioShock Infinite
is sure to leave you scratching your
head and confusion why what is going on
Elizabeth what do you mean that this is
a doorway when you need a guide to walk
you through all of the twists and turns
of the games ending you know things are
a bit mixed up my daughter know before
we get to our number one pick here are
some honorable mentions huh she little
good coming from this one time just to
persevere
rabitor and i his victims
there’s no
and I will have my I guess I really
don’t care if it’s dangerous or not I’m
going to town either way then why the
coin you tossed has struck the earth now
you must abide by its outcome the coin
is still turning
Raziel king a wrestler with the spirit
of two champions after beating craig
mara he followed marta to the hospital
to kill number one metal gear series why
are you doing this
hideo kojima’s trademark franchise is
notorious for having a complicated
overblown storyline that spans several
decades includes numerous global
conspiracies involving sinister plots
and even multiple cloned versions of the
same main character who all have
different histories and conflicts of
their own liquid and solid hunted down
big boss trying to sever the tie that
bound them to him keeping it all
straight is nearly impossible for anyone
even Kojima himself as the series has
accrued many plot holes and
inconsistencies over the years that’s
the proof of your incompetence right
there which are often forgiven by fans
due to the game’s excellent polished
gameplay still doesn’t make all that
much sense though so we meet again
John
