while stretching is beneficial to anyone
the elderly and injured athletes can
benefit most from this unique form hi
I’m Rebecca Brayton and welcome to
watchmojo.com our host Veronica spoke
with the fitness experts at Victoria
Park about myofascial stretching so what
is myofascial stretching basically what
is the myofascial stretching is a
therapeutic type of stretching that will
work on the envelope of the muscle it’s
very important to work on the envelope
the fascia before you work inside
myofascial stretching were developed by
dr. Geetha is a MD also deal from South
of France is my colleague he developed
these stretches about 30 years ago to
really work on therapy and also to
prevent injuries also increasing
circulation and like we’ve seen what
athletes they do that after to recover
faster
what is fashio is the envelope of
everything in your body from your nerves
from your veins from your organs
everything is fashion the biggest
fashion of the body is the skin the
fashion is like the building block of
your body now we discussed that there
are different types of stretching how is
this one different from the others it’s
very technical in stuffing it’s very
hard to do alone at the beginning you
can’t open a book and do it we need an
instructor which you have to beginning
to guide you when I started working with
Paul I was actually injured and it was
amazing how within a few minutes he was
able to increase my mobility give me a
lot of relief from some of the
inflammation the pain I was that I was
feeling and so I’m a convert to this
particular type of myofascial stretching
but again you’ve got to find a
professional who really knows what
they’re doing and who can guide you and
teach you through your stretching if
you’re going to be embarking on this
particular type of stretching now we saw
you using this type of stretching with
professional athletes but is this
something that everyone can benefit from
every one of my clients are using
myofascial stretching I used to be very
very tight very stiff from my wrestling
background for me it saves me a lot of
aggravation I do it 20 minutes a day and
it gave me a lot of range
motion I never talk about flexibility
because for me training athletes and
regular people range of motion is more
important but my rate of injuries
diminished a lot my sleep got better
digestion got better because everything
is enclosed in fashioning elderly people
will benefit right away someone that’s
very very stiff will see the big big
difference within the first couple of
hours someone that’s injured too will
film right away someone that has a lot
of flexibility already we’ll have to be
patient because it’s not a violent type
and you won’t feel that terror that pull
you’ll just feel tension but the more
you practice it the easier its to get
into the position everyone today always
lacks time so if there’s one stretch
that would be crucial for people to do
what would it be it’s going to be the
long head of the bicep because it
stabilize the shoulder and we call it
the v rotator cuff a lot of people to
get injury by the shoulder they think
it’s shoulder but it’s really the long
head of the bicep tendon that gets very
irritated by push off pull-ups and Troy
movements yeah let’s go look at that now
we’ll do the myofascial stretching for
your long head of the bicep long end of
the bicep mainly does elbow flexion
shoulder flexion and supination of the
forearm now we’re going to bring the arm
in the back and extension palms up now
you want to lock your elbows slide your
hips down a little more now we’re gonna
isolate your left side gently lean your
head to your right bring your knees
gently to the right side raise the chest
up feel the tension right on the long
head of the bicep you want to hold a
position about 30 seconds at all time
you want to keep pushing with the top of
your head keep the wrist flat on the
ground breathe through the movement
slowly release now we’re gonna go to the
right hand side lean gently to the left
your head needs the same raise the chest
up you’ll feel a nice release right in
front of the shoulders and a bit on top
of the shoulders again it’s a very very
common injury area especially if you
play golf tennis or overhead sports
slowly release it in your case because
you’re very flexible you’re you’re able
to bring your hands together a lot of
people will need to keep a little more
distance in between it will be a hybrid
in between short head of the bicep that
is wider and long head but when you’re
pressed by time just do the long head
and it’s going to help a lot to release
the tension on your shoulders and
improve your posture
