Music: Video on AVID Avant Garde Music Speakers and Turntables

hi this is Chris with watchmojo.com and
I’m here now with Conrad mass a
representative here with avid audio how
you doing today very well thank you very
much so I see a lot of really
interesting things here and I’m
wondering if you could just take me
around and show me some of the things
you guys have here on display yes well
the most striking thing obviously is the
loudspeakers these are the avant-garde
speakers from Germany they’re a horn
speaker which is different to what most
people probably see as drive units in a
box they’re more sort of open plan and
their horn speakers as well as that we
have the avid range of turntables so we
have the avid reference here which is
about sixteen seventeen thousand dollars
we’ve got racking here from Italy which
is solid steel and we’re using valve
audio which is a hybrid valve transistor
design in terms of the electronics a
turntable as analog buy it by nature so
is there any sort of digital sort of you
know intermedium between the
communication with this eMeter it’s a
pure analog system and an analog signal
going right the way through so no
corruption no corruption in that
corruption in terms of the digital vs
analog I guess I can call it a debate
you I guess it’s safe to say that you
guys tend to side on actually I don’t
side or anything music music at the end
of the day and if you go to a live
concert I don’t think anyone sits there
thinking well this sounds digital well
this sounds analog at the end of the day
the better the analog equipment gets the
more it actually starts to sound like
digital but it has more of an open less
aggressive type of sound to it what
exactly is the idea of having this sort
of porn like sort of design with this
well what exactly does that do to the
sound and
all speakers are traditionally very
efficient so you don’t need a very big
amplifier to drive them and the the horn
basically is there to radiate sound out
so it just works in a different way to
conventional speaker so it gives a very
big open sound and it’s probably more
live sounding than say a conventional
speaker just to look back here at this
turntable I mean it looks impressive but
I don’t exactly know why I’m impressive
that other than the aesthetic is there
something about this that stands out in
terms of you know something that you
don’t find in other conventional
turntables yeah i mean the design of the
turntable is completely different apart
from yes the fact that it go looks and
it goes round I’m sure Ferrari would say
their cars a totally different to
Porsche in their design some of the
unique features about this the weight
bounces up and down so you get much
better isolation than a conventional
turn tail which may be the solid or not
use such a fishing isolation system the
bearing and the motor power supply are
again much more highly specified spect
up than you would do on an ordinary
turntable and it all goes even things
like the chrome plating finish and
things about all add to the sound
quality the first question they came to
my mind and it’s the one I say for last
is how many in terms of this set up here
right now how many watts of audio is
coming out of this if that’s even a huge
you know factor in this case I mean how
many ones in terms of this particular
speaker design for instance they are
very efficient so you actually don’t
need a lot of wattage to get a very loud
sound is the sound quality that you need
to be looking at rather than just
looking at a spec sheet which frankly
means nothing thank you very much and
speaking of hearing it to really be the
best judge I’d like to get a sample of
what this sounds like
