Mint Julep Cocktail: Recipe

what’s up everyone it’s your friendly
neighborhood bartenders Bram and Justin
we’re back at back so restaurant of the
old port with watchmojo.com and today
we’re taking a little trip down south
Mexico no we’re actually gonna head to
Kentucky so like kentucky kentucky derby
mint julep here we go so there’s all
kind of different stories of how the
mint julep was created and where is the
right from i guess you could kind of say
it has a muddled history it anyway what
I’ve heard was that it dates back to the
Arab world and instead of mint leaves
that used to use rose petals that’s
funny I mean I’ve heard that Americans
fed it to their horses before races so
they could run faster I’m pretty sure
that’s not true I’m pretty sure it was
on Wikipedia okay okay anyways what we
do know is that since nineteen
thirty-eight it’s been kind of a symbol
of the Kentucky Derby in the USA so of
course being a mint julep the most
important part is the mint Thank You
captain obvious right so when you’re
making a mojito you muddle the mint and
today we’re here something called
correctly limits so in other word for
correcting is actually slapping mint
have you ever slapped minute before
Dustin I can’t say that I have ramped
I’d like you to try first just slap it
just flop it I don’t have to buy dinner
drinks it’s not at all slap it like it
owes you money harder let me show you
wow I like to come down on it no like
more like a movie like up like a little
backup Oh done okay okay Brown you think
there any other ways to correct mint
good times so essentially what you’re
doing when you’re correcting the mint is
you’re extracting the aromas and flavors
from the leaves themselves smell that
brung no I don’t actually ok so we’ve
already slapped / corrected our meant
that we have right and we’ve placed it
in a pewter Cup which has come to be
known as the traditional glass serve at
the Kentucky Derby that’s right so like
we said our mint is there we’re going to
add about three quarters of an ounce of
simple syrup again sugar and water which
you can make it home very simple equal
parts your then you can add about two
ounces of maker’s mark bourbon very
dangerous stuff and then you’re going to
add your crushed ice carefully crush my
brand Mauer okay so after you had a
little bit of ice make sure that you
give it a good stir so make sure you add
ice to the top as if it was like a mini
snow cone and then you add mint for
garnish as well as a straw but make sure
they’re right next to one another in
order to get the full effect of the mint
leaves you know the estimated numbers in
the Kentucky Derby’s if they sold about
120,000 mint juleps imagine making
120,000 it’s my kind of party I think
I’d kill myself
