Kid-Proofing Your Home

now what can a parent do to make sure
that their home is a safe environment
well I think the first thing you need to
do is sort of see products through the
eyes of your children so really think of
it how would they use that object how
would they use that particular product
when you walk by a window blind you
think that’s a blind whereas a child
laughing oh those lovely cords those are
necklaces I can wear that around my neck
and unfortunately people and children in
particular have been injured from blinds
you know for them the drawers on a
dresser are stairs to reach up and reach
whatever is on top of the dresser and so
really think of how they can modify that
product to make it safer so in case of
drawers you want to put little locks on
the drawer so that they can’t pull them
open you want to secure that dresser for
example to the wall and their brackets
that come when you buy dressers now even
though our TVs have gotten thinner
they’re actually just as heavy as they
were when they were much larger and so
we really want people to look at
securing those televisions to the wall
as well and then finally you know we
want you to really look at playground
equipment we know that kids are supposed
to play on playground equipment we want
them to be active but we also want them
to be safe is there any way to find out
if a product has been recalled both in
the US and Canada there are websites for
product recalls in Canada it’s it’s
Health Canada that’s responsible for
that in the US the US Consumer Product
Safety Commission well thank you so much
for showing us how to create a safe
environment for our kids you’re welcome
