Jail Lobbyists

up next a surprising ruling has led to
mayhem outside the Supreme Court
building in Washington DC the decision
which simultaneously kicked off
celebrations in penitentiaries
nationwide essentially gives convicted
felons whether still jailed or not the
right to vote in presidential elections
were joined by our chief constitutional
correspondent Brock Jasper who’s outside
the courthouse now hi Brock David can
you give us an idea of what’s happening
well things have calmed down
considerably but just hours ago the
streets here were covered in rioters
after the Supreme Court handed down
their ruling allowing felons to vote at
the national level what seemed to bother
the rioters most was the fact that their
fellow citizens who were behind bars
were being treated humanely are they not
citizens of a lower grade traditionally
yes in the past anyone sent to prison
was banned from participating the
democratic process does this verdict
overrule state legislation absolutely
that’s what makes this resolution so
powerful insiders on Capitol Hill
believe that this could be a Cinderella
year for the lowly prisoner with more
people being incarcerated the prison
population is forming a significant part
of the overall populace and if they
unite and form what is being dubbed the
jail lobby they could prove to be one of
the more powerful lobbies on the hill
alongside the oil tobacco and automotive
industries I know things have calmed
down can you take a look at the images
on your screen and describe what’s
happening well at least six hundred
protesters stormed the courthouse police
were forced to use such tactics as human
blockades and the use of fire hoses this
was an unfortunate choice as undeterred
rioters soon began setting police
cruisers ablaze this rendered the
firefighters obsolete as there was
little to no water to fight the flames
were there any arrests many the irony
here is that a large proportion of those
involved in today’s riots will become
felons themselves thus benefiting from
the ruling they so viciously opposed
brought Jasper in the capital thank you
pleasure coming up next stock prices in
