behind your nickname when I signed on to
wk to you in New York my real name John
saliano my boss thought was too hard to
say and remember I came up with the name
Johnny Goomba and he says no Goomba
Johnny it’s a italian-american slang for
like best friend Godfather cousin you
know when people it’s really in the
States the slang is spelt with a g’ but
in in the Italian language it’s with a
see it’s Goomba Oh kumara I also read
somewhere that it meant something like
tough guy does it have anything to do
with it – it has been used negatively in
films by filmmakers in Hollywood
Italians know the true meaning and how
it’s used but people who are not Italian
have used it negatively – to knock
Italians so it in my case it doesn’t
mean anything like that it’s it’s just a
term of endearment it’s friendly
Italians are often actually associated
with the mob and the tough-guy image but
that’s kind of changing so what’s your
opinion of shows like Jersey Shore for
example Jersey Shore is it’s kind of
hard to get used to for a lot of people
myself included because there was a time
when I started to get into show business
you had to have talent
and you know people just seem to like to
watch TV now and watch what I would call
is like a human trainwreck and you know
these kids are kids and they’re just
acting themselves and you know they’re
you know acting their age and being
foolish and you know outrageous and
stupid you know people are enjoying it
so I saw on your resume that you’ve
written for a cosmopolitan is that
because you have a great understanding
of the ladies and if so what’s your
secret it was more on a comedic level it
wasn’t because I I do not have a great
understanding on women admitting that
you don’t understand women
is a huge step forward for everybody
costs me $25 a bag for me and my wife to
come up here my wife had two bags
twenty-five twenty-five fifty five
hundred dollars for the bags it’s an
extra hundred dollars for bags and an
extra 150 for my wife’s emotional
baggage on the radio you can get away
with a lot more than on camera so what’s
one of the craziest things that you’ve
done while on air one of the things that
we did on air was a contest that we
called nude would a dude and I believe
we gave away a trip to Hawaii and we had
two men stay naked with each other in a
sleeping bag until somebody couldn’t
take it the guy who the guy who stated
no long has got the trip to Hawaii and
and they were in the studio make it in
the sleeping bag and it was pretty funny
what’s such a big variety on your resume
is there anything that you are still
interested in trying people always laugh
at me when I say this
I’d love to host the game show you know
it’s a nice steady job it’s it’s fun I
always watch the wheel of fortune and
I’d say boy

has it yes let’s you know the game is
the show and the contestants and it’s
just you show up and then they you
basically get out of the way and it’s a
nice way to make a living
what’s the toughest thing that you’ve
ever done the toughest thing I’ve ever

it is getting married yeah two years man
I got married late in life I’m not used
to it like I still wake up every day
like don’t you got to go home my
mother’s coming over to clean you gotta
get the out of here remember I was
married for the month the first month
and my wife goes we have to go off of my
mother’s house to do this my aunt’s
coming over and I’m like I got to do
what I got to do it now when I want to
watch football you know marriage has

am and and who I want to be I just
didn’t know anything about marriage and
married guys don’t tell you anything
before you get married every married
guys they say how do you like me in
