Interview with Wild Light

your high school band may not end up
being a waste of time
hi I’m Rebecca Brayton and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’re speaking
with four-piece rock ensemble wildlife
so why don’t you tell me how wildlife
got together seven I met when we were in
fourth grade we were in a band in high
school we kind of grew up together over
the years playing music what did you
guys listen to growing up we got really
into the clash in the high school and
that was kind of like stuck with us I
grew up listening to a lot of metal like
Megadeth and rock like Danzig and then I
got in the misfits and Tupac straight
somewhere criss cross fits in
do you guys grew up together do you ever
find it difficult to kind of bring the
same energy to the band I don’t think
the fact that we’ve known each other for
long time particularly effects that the
one thing that affects the energy of a
show the most is really the crowd the
crowds into it the crowds loud
the crowds like you know stomping their
feet and they’re clapping it just makes
this show so much better I think a lot
of people actually maybe don’t even know
that how is the pseudo friendship with
the Arcade Fire kind of helped the band
by asking us to go on the European tour
with them was such a huge favor it was
just so generous of him to do that
because it exposed us to thousands and
thousands of people on that level you
know he helped our band should – Lee
your first single California on my mind
uses the f-word quite liberally u95
three shits that isn’t that yeah
and that was the song you know so it was
everyone gonna change it I think that
that’s kind of what makes it charming we
definitely weren’t intending on opening
the album with it but then Rob our
producer just kind of suggested that
they’re like oh that’d be kind of
Awesome not funny it’d be funny I think
this first version
yeah I know a lot of newer bands are
kind of praising the internet for you
know helping them get their music out
there but do you think it’s kind of
helped or hindered what you do we grew
up you know with that model of you know
the big bands just a lot of money behind
them I kind of personally missed the
days when you had to go out and find a
record and it was like hard or I had to
like mail people just like letters like
why’d you have a copy of this could you
make me a cassette tape I mean it’s good
for bands and it’s good for us but at
the same time I don’t think it’s as
exciting it’s not as mysterious anymore
so I missed that
