Interview with Tim from Cursive

always difficult to categorize this band
out of omaha nebraska features dynamic
instrumentals and thoughtful lyrics hi
i’m rebecca Brayton and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’re speaking
with tim kasher of cursive
how would you describe the band’s
evolution over its history I’m not sure
what the evolution would be most i’d say
that first three records maybe just more
derivative where we were for queer for
peace rock band i mean i look back
fondly on those records but maybe we fit
into into a genre a little more snug and
then from then on the last of the latter
three we hit efforts to to try to get
out of genre now we’re just at a point
where we keep trying to do significantly
different records you’re coming up the
brings us back to be honest
so if you’re trying to stay out of a
genre how do you like to describe the
music now no I don’t really I don’t I
just never answer that question because
it’s a phone you can get into you know
self-congratulatory realms I do think
that we just say it’s hard rock which is
even accurate saves rock and roll
tell us about the the music scene in
Omaha I actually wish I knew I feel
terrible that I don’t know more about it
now I moved away a couple years ago
every band that I hear about that
already has an album out or something it
makes me kind of makes me sad because I
don’t I don’t want to get out of touch
with it but uh but I’m also getting a
lot of older and there’s you know
there’s a whole new generation of 20
year olds that are doing what we were
doing back then
we’re proud as in the collective we of
all the bands that i grew up with we’re
proud that we contributed so much to
omaha and his mate and helped kind of be
part of the ongoing uh you know music
same name would you say that you guys
fit into a certain scene you know we
grew up bidding into the omaha he’s
explained
we’re one of these bands that have a
difficult time getting paired up with
other bands we did at work man man and I
thought that was great because I think
they’re pretty unusual band you know
having Mastodon we did a tour opening
for them which really confused people
including ourselves but we thought it
was great
on your last album I think you had your
fans remix a certain track is it
interesting to hear kind of different
perspectives on something that you made
you know for all those that came through
and we did a pretty good job listening
through all of them it’s sad to say
there’s actually a lot of similarities
as our whole of Ike human as human
beings like we all come up with similar
idea this is you know but then in that
pool there was some great ones that in
maybe I suppose that’s way the way music
is
would you ever do something like that
again yeah absolutely I don’t think we
had the right song for this record to be
something like that but yeah it was
great I wouldn’t take back the
incredibly dull bus rides listening to
crack after Jack of the same song
thank you very much thank you
I
you
