hailing from new jersey this band’s
music boasts anthemic sound and working
man lyrics hi I’m Rebecca Brayton and
welcome to watchmojo.com and today we’re
speaking with the gaslight anthem
how would you describe the gaslight
anthem sound that one’s here I like
you’re just what the pack of hellhounds
coming forth through Hades that’s out
didn’t you have a cure 10 the Bruce
Springsteen singing for the care with a
tinge more aggression that thing yeah I
guess that’s both now you guys are often
compared to Bruce Springsteen even in
terms of lyrics because of kind of that
working man what do you want to just
talk about lyrically how you guys are
similar
I mean that is something we’re like you
know Bruce Springsteen comparison could
be used with the way Brian rights
because well hey there from about six
blocks away from each other
you can start
Oh Mary
it’s where they come from is where we
all come from and like you know Jersey
is a really unique place just with the
things you’re going to see and the
people you’re going to meet and kind of
the foundation your life is based on
it’s a little different than other
places so from a true like
singer-songwriter storyteller vibe when
you write about what you see around you
this all the same things
now your sound seems to kind of
gravitate towards you know 1950s rock
and roll can you discuss how that era
influenced you guys hot music got
formulated it turned into like a math
equation you know we’re like you do this
for this amount of time and then you add
this and then you go up this much and so
on and so forth and back in the 50s and
the early 60s I think pop music and rock
music was still trying to figure out its
own way and I just I think we all like
the way that sounds you had natural
tones and natural instrument sounds and
people actually playing completed songs
instead of like looping one verse and
running it over and over again just
something we try to do too like we want
the whole package to sound kind of
organic I guess to use a cliché
musician word describe the gaslight
anthem live show some of the points of
the whole 50s and 60s sound too of what
we take out of it is like this natural
release we know life sucks like most of
the time but like if you’re coming to a
show you’re not supposed to be thinking
about that shit while you’re there
you’re supposed to be you know venting
you’re supposed to be forgetting and
like that’s kind of what we try to bring
we don’t want people to like bring their
problems inside like those should be
left outside just come like kick it and
have fun you know
mrs. sometimes shaken thank you very
much they appreciate it
