hey I’m your host dave with
watchmojo.com and we’re at nesties chill
on the hill and we’re going to be
talking to Seth Wescott
I hear you started off skateboarding so
how did you get from your first ride on
a skateboard to Olympic gold medal you
know we had winner a lot more of the
year than in summer so there was only a
few months of skateboarding time no I
grew up on skis is a little kid and as
soon as I saw snowboarding Khan in the
mid 80s you know because I’ve been
skateboarding already I was just drawn
to it you know it’s all just kind of
baby steps along the way been
snowboarding like 23 years and so that
progression just kind of grows and grows
and eventually there I was on the podium
with the Olympics I hear part of the way
you train is you get into a helicopter
and you get dropped off on a mountain
that no one’s ever written before is
this true a month every spring I’ve been
going to Alaska for seven years and I
work with the points north heli
operation up there out of Cordova you
know a lot of the mountains have been
written but your goal is ultimately to
find stuff that no one’s done before and
we go to film for a month every year and
this year was an amazing year up there
we had super stable snow conditions you
know some years were the avalanches it
can be pretty dangerous I spend my whole
year chasing contest around and doing
stuff kind of within ski areas and
everything to be able to go and just get
out into the nature and have these
experiences all by yourself in the
mountains it’s that for me is really
where the soul of the sport is and it
takes me back to why I fell in love with
it in the first place is there anything
that that’s really work the travel part
of it i think you know i mean i’ve been
doing the tour since about 90 for this
many years into it the time that you’re
away from home and everything and living
out of hotels all the time that’s kind
of the work part of it but as soon as
you get on the hill you’re just having a
blast and enjoying it do you have any
pre run rituals you listen to music is
there any music that really gets you
amped up before a run I listened to a
lot of old-school Metallica Master of
Puppets kill them all stuff like that
Wow how do you prepare for an event like
the Olympics I mean it must be a lot of
training it’s a lot of you know cross
training mountain biking running a lot
of time in the weight room just getting
yourself physically strong so that you
know you can take the beatings of when
you make mistakes and be able to stay
healthy through it you know a lot of
it’s just mental training thinking about
what your game plan is going to be
having a clear path on what you want to
do an accomplished just getting
motivated to try to go back and defend
the metal thanks so much Seth we really
appreciate you coming to talk to us
today right on I’m stoked to be here in
trauma on watching everyone have fun in
the snow have a great day
