Interview with Millencolin

after nearly two decades touring the
globe Swedish foursome millencolin is
arguably putting out some of its best
music ever hi I’m Rebecca Brayton and
welcome to watchmojo.com and in our
latest music interview host Derek Allen
gets to sit down with the lead singer of
this Scandinavian punk group
with a lot of bands playing musical
chairs with their lineups you guys have
been together for between 15 and 20
years what has kind of been the secret
to you guys I mean we were all friends
before we started a balloon maybe that
has something to do it and we all just
split everything they’re trying to be
democratic and I believe that everyone
in the band feels that the report about
it maybe bands the despair or change
band members there’s maybe one guy you
know writing all the songs and do net
everything so that’s important you know
to everyone involved so how did you guys
first did into punk music what was the
sort of scene around Sweden at the time
we got into punk rock through
skateboarding basically
macky sall know most our friends were
into skateboarding started their own
punk rock bands and but then we’ve got
more and more into bands like better
Legend and no effect so we’ve just had
to start our own banner
what really motivated you to write the
songs in English from the beginning what
we listened to was bouncing in English I
didn’t have anything to do like okay
maybe if we sing an Englishman maybe
then we can tour more countries was you
know what we were inspired by so you’re
eight studio albums then how do you
approach lyrics and the music in general
compared to how you used to it’s it’s
different of course I mean today you
have different technology what we
started out you know we were rehearsing
you know twice a week but now now you
can actually record your own ideas at
home and you can put the files up on a
server and you can download them so you
can make demos without even meeting the
other guys in the band maybe you lose
something on the way to when you’re in
the like a rehearsal room everything is
loud and hearing that in the rehearsal
room like with a really loud guitar lot
of those songs I came up with the vocals
from being inspired by whoo you know the
loud guitar
you also have your own side project
where you play solo how is that
different from milen taan
it’s a different kind of music in the
way I don’t have to compromise you know
and that’s very refreshing to to work
with other people especially when you’re
being in a band for a long time like we
have mail and calling no it’s not it’s
not enough for me
