i’m a producer singer songwriter this
wanted to love to drive me away
so music has always been a part of your
life you come from a musical family but
when was it that you decide that you
want this to be your career I remember
when I was like about 10 years old and
the first time I heard africa by toto
that was when I really wanted to do
something in music and had a feeling
that you know maybe I’m good at this
thing you’re forced to leave Lebanon at
two years old has this inspired your
writing I definitely affected my music I
mean on my first album space behind the
face I heard a song called summer days
seven nights in Beirut which is a song
about my dad growing up and telling me
how beautiful Lebanon they was before
you make how has your career evolved I
think the touring made a difference
seeing the reactions of the people to my
music I mean it’s one thing to be here
in the studio and create music and it’s
another thing to promote this music and
see the feedback the first album was so
raw and was just like okay what do I
love to listen to you know second album
was more like what triggers people okay
this is cool as much as I love it you
know i just started choosing picking and
choosing songs that would trigger people
I’m so sensitive I feel the people it’s
like a psychological relationship and I
feel it when I’m playing the piano let’s
say and I can hear people a little
whisper and this meant it turns me off
you understand so I want to keep people
excited people energetic and keep people
focused you know they mean so the second
album definitely I wanted them to dance
and not even have a chance to kind of
talk to their friend you understand
you mentioned the song Africa and this
is the song that you redid from Toto so
what did you add to that song this is
what so people don’t know is that I went
through about four to five versions of
that song it started off as an original
straight cover and then I listened to it
I’m like why would anyone want to hear
mine they can hear there’s so that’s
when it started morphing you know it
started going into more R&B more dance
hall and by the fourth stage it was a
completely you know I just took the
course basically and I completely made a
new verse i use the dancehall beat I got
a dancehall artist which is culture a
feature on it I wanted something to get
the kids understanding the type of song
it is because if you play the original
two kids today they won’t get it they
think it’s cheesy you can capture an
audience based solely on on the type of
music if someone’s into house or R&B
then they’ll get it even if it’s not
that great so I kind of camouflaged it
for the people and it and it’s working
out of all the songs that you’ve written
what’s your favorite one on the first
album it’s probably summer days in
Beirut because it just hits home it
makes me emotional just makes me think
of my family you know and that’s the
closest thing to my heart on the second
album I would think it’s a Africa for
sure because it’s you know a song that I
used to love as a kid and like it made
me fall in love with music you know it
changed my life that song you know
what’s it’s really profound for me and
silent type I know there’s gonna be many
more but what is your greatest
achievement so far so far my MTV Award
right here I’m so excited my mtv europe

forward to bigger bigger things what
have you learned now that you wishing
you at the very beginning be driven
determined don’t give up even though
people you know in high places tell you
know it means nothing they’re just human
they don’t know with the determination

inside of you and how driven you are all
they know is the surface but you know
deep inside what you want to become and
no one can take that away and that’s
powerful if you know that and you’re so
confident in that man you can achieve

based on believing that I have it
understand and not to be in a like in a
cocky way or something just I have it
knowing deep inside I don’t need to say
it to anybody I just need to prove it
