my name is Greg Keeler and with over 25
years of experience under their belts
this alternative pop country band is
coming up with even more material than
ever
hi my name is Stephanie and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’re speaking
to Greg Keeler of blue rodeo after being
in a band for 25 years how would you say
you keep your passion for music life I
don’t really know I just I just love
music I enjoy that world maybe more than
this world that we’re in right now
whatever that landscape is you know so I
like visiting here once in a while but
I’d rather live in the other world
how is blue Rodya volved both musically
and lyrically since your to be record
I’m gonna just go back a little further
from when we very first started you know
we were we didn’t really know how to
write songs we were just sort of more
imitators Jim and I would sit and you
know somebody’s rec room or in a bedroom
or something he’d have some parts from a
song that he had stolen from and I had
had some parts from the songs that I had
stolen from and we just sort of piece
them all together and then I think as
time went on we just sort of learned
that we wanted to write more personal
songs and just sort of like get deeper
into songwriting
even if we’re in the digital age Loretta
decided to record an album called the
things we left behind which is a double
album specifically designed to be
enjoyed on vinyl why did you choose this
route and what do you thinks it’s vinyl
apart from other media I never left the
vinyl world I’ve always had my turntable
in my records and I’ve always preferred
records to CDs and whatever the formats
I just like picking them up and looking
at him I like the 20 minutes of music I
love the sound of them it started out
it’s a bit of a joke actually Jim and I
sat down and we realized jeez we’ve got
a lot of songs and then in the paper the
second day that we were you know just
starting to learn each other songs Thom
Yorke from Radiohead said the album’s
did and we’ll never make another album
you know it’s all just download single
songs from now on that’s all we’re gonna
do so then we joked we said you know we
should do a double out yeah we don’t do
double fine yeah you know so is this
sort of silly so they tried to convince
us to just do a long CD you know and
value-added and all that sort of stuff
but no we’d like to do so yeah I fired I
really like having a double LP
how is the things we left behind it
different from your previous record of
small miracles you know small miracles
it’s not our greatest record yeah I know
I did did well for us and people liked
it and journals and all that but when I
listen back to it it just doesn’t throw
me I really really like the things we
left behind I think it’s got a great
sound I really like the songs thank you
so much my pleasure
