Interview with Courtney Wing

welcome to watchmojo.com i’m your host
layla and i joined courtney wing to find
out how this singer-songwriter makes
magic with music
you recorded your debut album in many
studios across North America and your
second release emerged out of a one-room
apartment turned studio what approach
was more natural well the only approach
that I’ve known is like just the very
independent sort of approach right right
I got a job after University made some
money and got a digital 8-track that I
could carry around so I would carry it
to austin texas to victoria british
columbia and record friends and whoever
i knew i just sit around wherever I was
with headphones on and you know tweak
the dials it’s such a the same sort of
thing you know I slowly upgrading and
getting more equipment but it’s just you
know whatever I can get stuff I can plug
into is what I’ll use you’ve lodged
performances across North and Central
America and in Europe what has been the
importance of sharing festivals with
like-minded musicians and audiences oh
it’s really great I mean that’s what
it’s all about really I think in the end
you know is just to to share the chair
the music can have those great moments
on stage that feel really nice energy
that’s created fantastic those are the
moments we live for I think how
important has travelling been to your
exposure to and knowledge of music
traveling is definitely you know best
education I’ve had travelled to lots of
great places New Orleans you know
fantastic you’re gonna get the
experience in the few of the music I
think from actually being there and and
coming across some of the great stuff
that happens there or you know like
through my 20s I learned a lot of
different styles that I was interested
in when flamenco plates in my game
believe that was awesome a really great
experience what kind of sounds are you
working to create on your album bouquet
of might and fury well you know we’re
incorporating the choir you know the
vocal collector and lots of different
different sounds it’s pushed to constant
work in progress using lots of
synthesizers and shakers or whatever I
can you know samples and stuff I’m
really in tune you know just trying to
make a mess of it but you know
comfortable mess can you please tell us
about your involvement with a 10-piece
boca collectively der wolf they’re a
bunch of opera lead singers it’s really
interesting the dynamics between our
band
musician sort of you work off just
listening or whatever and working with
those guys who are classically trained
so the dynamics are very interesting
very fun have a lot of fun together
