everyone loves the hula-hoop workout
including first lady Michelle Obama hi
I’m Veronica with watchmojo.com and
today we’re looking at a workout that
not only works but is liberating to when
did this go from something that kids
play with in the schoolyard to a workout
it started in California about six five
six years ago with the this one girl
Anna her name is who polishes and she
transformed our regular whooping to
something more hoop dance now what makes
this a great workout it gives a great
massage to your organs it’s good for the
digestive system you can burn a few
calories they say about 110 minutes of
you know active whooping there’s a lot
of psychological and emotional benefits
to whooping it gets you in a great mood
instantly and it can also be meditative
so you can who by yourself you can
blindfold yourself to really connect to
your Center to your core and so there’s
those kinds of benefits too now I
imagine you’re working your core a lot
but will you be toning your other
muscles as well if you take a hoop
around your hand and you hoop like this
sideways for just a minute you’ll feel
your arm there’s chest whooping also
which tones the muscles between the ribs
buttocks everything you know because you
use your whole body when you who are
there different hoops that can be used
during the class we have light medium or
heavy weighted hoops the lighter hoops
you’re gonna have to move more fast to
keep it going so it brings it more
aerobic dimension to it and the heavier
loops you work more than muscles
Tony so what can we expect from a
typical whooping class there are some
warm up there’s a cool down and in
between we play simple as that the
teacher shows a new move and then she
explains it and then the girls try it I
see girls cuz it’s mostly girls usually
you take a class one week and then if
you find it during that class there’s
one particular move that’s more
difficult or challenging for you for
some reason you drop your hoop you go
home come back the next week pick up the
hoop and the moves more natural one week
after it’s like the body has a memory
and kind of integrates the movement
during the week when you’re not even
practicing so that’s what we do we learn
about four or five movements during one
class depending on the level of the
classes there’s also the casual hoop
jams where people come to practice and
ask their questions i will take those
questions help the girls with their
difficulties and then turn these
movements into either some
choreographies or a more arabic effort
to just challenge them and to let them
integrate the movement is there anything
else you want to tell us about this
workout try it you’ll like it it’s not
like going to the gym you know I gotta
go work out it’s a work you know try
hoping it’s just a lot of fun you can
pump your heart pump your muscles and
have fun and just play and learn to be
creative also well it does sound like a
lot of fun thank you so much you’re
welcome thank you
