How To Workout As You Age

as we get older sometimes we get caught
up in all of our responsibilities and
forget about our fitness hi I’m Ashley
with watchmojo.com and today we’re
learning how you can get back into
training no matter how old you are I
started training with Erik two and a
half years ago and I was not in good
shape I Dragon Boat I dance and I was I
was really having a hard time breathing
and now I’m really strong I could do
just about anything how can you start
getting back into shape if you haven’t
done anything in a while start slowly
and progress at your own level so
everybody starts somewhere and then they
improve from there can you train if you
have arthritis and any other health
conditions absolutely i think it’s it’s
recommended to do some training if you
have arthritis you don’t want to overdo
it where you’re going to cause
inflammation of your joints but some
training would be good for you as well
as for other health conditions like
osteoporosis it’s good to do some
training what advice do you want to pass
along I had an interesting question my
mother started working out in your 50s
and she said to me how long do I have to
keep doing this for and I said to her
for the rest of your life so we’re gonna
start with the agility ladder um Sandra
does some ballroom dancing so this will
help with their footwork and her balance
we’ll try to get some goons going let’s
try one crossover step and then cross
over step so i’ll just have you worked
through the ladder that way that’s it
very good see you on your toes moving
quickly let’s do two ladders like that
alright so same one going back perfect
like a pro all right let’s try a
different one so this time it’ll be
forward moving in in and out out along
the ladder all right quick feet good
same one going back in in out out again
alright so the next one is going to be
rowing on the BOSU so we’ll have
resistance with the elastic and some
core conditioning by balancing on the
BOSU so the elastic provides some
resistance and give some strength to the
back hopefully will improve her dragon
boating ok so we’ve turned the BOSU over
which is a little bit more difficult to
core conditioning again and some
resistance training with the cables for
the triceps this is working the back of
the arm and of course the core is
working to keep it balanced as well one
of the most important things to do is
cardiovascular training we’re going to
go on the rower next and we’ll do a
little bit for the heart and lungs let’s
get this going and we’ll do a little bit
of rowing of course you can live with
weak arms or weak legs but if you have a
weak hearts you’ve got some serious
problems so we’re going to try to row
about 2,000 meters and that should be
done close to 12 minutes what we’re
going to do next is throwing the ball at
the wall try to get a coordinated throat
that’ll come back and not the post over
if we knock our own post over the loser
will have to do five squats so this adds
a little bit of fun and challenge into
the workout and we always have a good
time doing this one and off we go
and we get five shots each so here we go
what two three four five all right let’s
go again what we’ve done there is a
progression through some different
exercises making it fun and effective
and we’ve had a good time and we’re
going to keep trading like this for four
years to come
