How to Replace Salt with Herbs and Spices

if you need to reduce the salt in your
diet for health reasons don’t worry
there are plenty of ways to add great
flavor to your food hi I’m Rebecca
Braden and welcome to watchmojo.com and
today we’ll be learning how to replace
the salt in our diets with herbs and
spices if you’ve been diagnosed with
high blood pressure and/or
if the doctor has said that your
arteries are close to getting clogged
these are the great selection of things
that you can substitute your salt intake
with spices and herbs and also high-end
quality of sea salts first one is the
Himalayan pink salt and so it’s very
amazing salt very healthy it’s the one
thought that everybody praises over
because of the high mineral content the
salt itself has caught up in the
Himalayas that’s why it’s natural
chemical free the other sea salt that I
really love a lot is the it’s a black
salt as you can see it’s it’s from
Cyprus we call precipice black lava salt
it actually has active charcoal in it
which is very nice because the charcoal
itself is like a detox for your body as
you take a little bit of salt intake the
charcoal activates and then grabs on to
bacteria in your body and then flushes
it out of your system so it works in two
ways instead of one you got the minerals
and the charcoal and then moving along
if we want to replace salt altogether
with the flavor of salt with spices and
herbs these are the selections that I
have taken up and there’s many more of
course but we’ll start off with one of
my favorites and it’s a very underrated
spice it’s called sumac it’s a Middle
Eastern spice used quite a bit to tank
up flavors in general it’s a berry but
it’s a very lemony tangy berry it’s got
the natural salty flavor to it and I use
it mostly for salads but if you go to
iranian cooking they use it for they put
it on their rice you’ll see it all the
time on rice and there’s no limits on
how much you can take regularly on this
the next spice I have here is actually a
chili it’s from a region and gufa we
call it oofah b-bear it’s a very bright
chili meaning it’s got a lot of bottom
flavor it’s a dark chili naturally
roasted under the Sun it’s also got
naturally flavored salt in it it doesn’t
have salt but it definitely flavors your
food up salty
and you can replace salt altogether with
very little of it it does bring in some
heat so you will be getting some heat
with your salt flavor
it also has cap system which is a very
active ingredient in health benefits
when it comes down to like circulation
and getting your blood and your heart
pumping which is very important of
course nowadays another one of my spices
that you can exchange for salt is dill
weed though wheat is a very common one
you can find in most households the dill
weed itself is a bit bitter flavored so
if you do add it into your food it
actually gives in that salty flavor it
turns into it that salty flavor and of
course dill is usually used for pickling
I use it a lot on fish I love fish and
dill another one of my additions here is
actually lemon juice powder this is
concentrated lemon juice and it’s turned
into the dry format you can make cakes
out of it you can make tarts out of it
and you can put it into any kind of
cooking it’s very flavorful
it tastes literally like lemon juice
nothing else it’s concentrated 100%
there’s no salt in it but it does have a
salty flavor so it will bring the food
to a salty side but it will also bring
tang and lemon to it obviously one of
the ones that been used quite often over
history has been onions and chives this
is onion powder right here next to me
and onions easily add that salty flavor
it’s got that natural salty flavor to it
onions is used across the board with a
lot of different foods and different
cuisines it’s also got health benefits
it’s very good for you you know when it
comes down to arthritis and circulation
it’s an anti-inflammatory as well
finally I also picked out a blend that
we make in-house we call it the salt
free blend and this consists of about 12
different ingredients all the herbs that
you can have that add in that salty
flavor with no salt at all in the blend
and this specifically you could use to
salt up your foods
