How to Do a Proper Head Stand

hi I’m Veronica Lodge mojo comm and
today fitness guru Nick Robinson is
working upside-down to reverse the
effects gravity can have on our bodies
by showing us how to do a headstand head
stands are one of my favorite inversions
for me it becomes like a moving
meditation but beyond meditating head
stands and inversions have some
significant other benefits for example
when you reverse the blood flow like
that it improves your circulation
improves your alignment improves your
core stability and core strength it
improves your endorphin or logical
system function helps relieve adrenal
fatigue it improves your digestion
it can even relieve insomnia and some
mild depression so today we’re going to
learn how to do a basic headstand now
the first thing we need to do is to go
throwing from a standing position to a
headstand is you want to gradually
reverse the blood flow so I’m going to
have her on account come into a child
pose and usually I would have her remain
here for a minute or more so that her
body gets used to changing the blood
flow around when she’s ready I’m gonna
have her roll the top of her head on the
mat the reason for that is everyone’s
head is a little bit of a different
shape so the place you’re gonna press
into the floor may not be the same as on
on my head so you want to look for that
spot that feels comfortable connected to
the floor so now she’s gonna take her
hands and she’s gonna just bring her
fingers together behind her head and
make a triangle with her elbows now
she’s not going to go up into this type
of a headstand I’m gonna have her press
her elbows into the mat and where her
elbows leave a little indentation she’s
going to place her hands perfect now
she’s gonna solidly connect with the
floor with her palm so this is really
important because you’ve got weight now
on your head and on each hand so in
three places
she’s gonna tuck her toes in and she’s
going to gradually lift her dummy and
start to walk her feet in now she’s not
walking her back she’s walking her bum
into alignment with the rest of her
spine good now when your legs start to
get light I’m going to have veronika
take one leg place it on her arm lift
the second leg place it on her arm and
now she’s going to bring her pelvis into
alignment lifting through the belly but
now when you feel ready veronika you can
try to uncurl all the way up good you’re
not quite aligned beautiful good now
reverse that bring it down slow slow
slow slow
good and then good you can take one knee
down at a time or come down into crow
perfect high-five so now that you’ve
learned how to float up into a headstand
instead of kicking up into a headstand
that action of floating and lifting from
the pelvis in the belly is what we’ll
teach you how to do a variation of other
movements from the headstand what I find
more exciting is that when you learn how
to float up like that you learn how to
float up even into a handstand which
allows you to develop much deeper and
more connected core strength and we know
that that deeper and more connected core
strength serves you not just when you’re
playing in the inversions and arm
balances but also serves you in any
other athletic capacity that deeply
connected belly will help you not just
in your athletic life but also to have a
beautiful posture and grow old
gracefully
