Figure Skater Jamie Sale on Parenting

as an Olympic gold medalist and a busy
mother you can be sure she knows how to
prioritize hi I’m Christine Rodriguez on
watchmojo.com today we’re talking to
figure skater Jamie Sally and hopefully
we’ll get some tips about how to deal
with the pressures of parenting how is
parenting changed your life until you
become a mother and a father you don’t
really understand the magnitude of it
and how much it does change your life
but for me it’s changed it in such a
positive way I I’ve always wanted to be
a mom when we had Jesse our son my
priorities changed skating was my
priority before it’s mostly now making
sure Jesse’s okay and he’s happy and
he’s taken care of he’s eating well and
he’s just he’s it now it’s been about me
for so long and skating and like I’m
okay that it’s about him now you and
David have been working together for
years as figure skaters professional
skaters and now all of a sudden baby
makes three are you able to translate
that team work on the ice to parenting
at home we have such a good
communication that we you know it wasn’t
even difficult for us to take that on
because when we learned how to skate
together it was all about it was a lot
like a marriage before we were married
because yeah because it’s about
communication and respect and
understanding and appreciating each
other’s differences you and David are
both public figures do you try to shield
Jesse from any of that people that are
very private and they’re very closed
everyone’s always trying to dig and find
something on those I think that when you
open yourself to two people people want
less of you because you’re not you have
nothing to hide if Jesse’s with me he’s
with me you know and if this picture is
gonna be shown on TV with me when I’m
speaking that’s fine we will be
conscious of it but I won’t say that
we’re gonna protect him in the sense of
like don’t ever show him I’m proud to
show him he’s a real cute kid do you
have any tips for new mothers I’m not an
expert because I’m still learning
I had great advice when you know your
toys are everywhere in the house for
example and they’re playing you know and
a lot of parents hate having mess
so they tidy up as the child is playing
leave it
enjoy your child play with your child
you can clean up when they’re nap and
you can clean up at bedtime because then
you end up not enjoying that time also
with your child really as difficult as
it might be enjoy every
every stage every moment every day it’s
it goes fast
