Ferrari vs. Maserati: A Partnership

these two Italian automakers have a
history of both speed and luxury hi I’m
Rebecca Brayton and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’ll be
learning more about Ferrari and Maserati
can you start by introducing us to the
Ferrari brand well I think the name
Ferrari speaks for itself it’s been
always the pinnacle that’s what all the
other automotive brands want to aspire
to obviously we were talking about
performance cars essentially it used to
be a race car that you can drive on the
streets but today with the technology
they are actually very comfortable cars
to drive daily what would you say the
brand is best known for what’s the
signature I think that the heritage you
know what this company stands for Enzo
Ferrari his thinking was I gotta build
race cars and to pay for the Racing
Development he had to build the road
cars so as you could see it all began
with a race car and that DNA have never
went away tell us more about the 2010
models what we did is that we brought in
the latest model which is the Ferrari
California this is a whole new segment
for Ferrari part from it are also being
an extreme and purposeful car on the
racetrack it’s actually probably the
most comfortable car they’ve ever built
with the most creature comfort amenities
ever cruise control a retractable
hardtop making it a convertible or a
closed coop again a first for Ferrari
7-speed transmission which gives you a
nice overdrive which makes the car the
greenest and most fuel-efficient of
Ferraris ever depending on what Carter
designing and who they’re designing for
the heritage the tradition the
performance is always there but with the
California they’ve tried to really make
an everyday usable streetcar now why
don’t you introduce this to the Maserati
brand the Maserati brothers used to race
against the Ferraris and now Maserati is
married with Ferrari a lot of the DNA
from Ferrari a lot of the parts a lot of
the assembly process is done by ferrari
for maserati and the maserati ends up
being i guess more the daily driven car
we’ve got a four door which Ferrari
never built and never will build for now
anyway and a little more of an
affordable exotic car being the Gran
Turismo and it’s a real four passenger
car so it’s on a little bit of a
different mission but all with
performance and obviously exclusivity
and minds and what would you say is the
signature of Maserati again because that
Ferrari DNA in the car it
an absolute pleasure to drive it handles
it stops well I mean it’s got sex appeal
a lot of the parts of the car hand-built
the leathers dissuades I mean they’re
just fabulous would you be able to tell
us about the 2010 models we brought two
models they’re essentially the same car
there based on the Quattroporte which is
the four-door Maserati built a two-door
version again it’s still a four
passenger car so we’ve got a 2010 in
Gran Turismo we have two engine choices
that both v8’s that both derived from a
Ferrari motor 4.2 liter and a 4.7 both
of them are making on the upwards of 400
horsepower automatic transmission
six-speed but it’s got the paddle shifts
which is what Ferrari was known and is
known for so you can change gears on the
steering wheel if you feel like driving
the car in a sporty manner and when you
don’t you put the current to regular
mode bring it into automatic and she’s
nice and soft and comfortable to drive
any interesting amenities like you were
mentioning in the Ferrari the fourth day
with this car is that you can pick every
single detail when you’re building the
car from the color of the exterior to
the color of the brake calipers and then
when we get to the interior well there’s
different leathers there Suede’s the
carpeting can change the piping the
stitching the headliner I mean it
doesn’t end so no car is actually the
same
you
