we have people who are very very
outgoing and fun and flamboyant know
many people who are very very athletic
and these people come together in a way
that’s really really interesting I think
some people would argue is an
alternative Spore
whereas there are others that feel very
strongly against that people can look in
all sorts of ways and meaning that they
can be tattooed and pierced or not and
that’s cool and they can be straight or
gay or met or not whatever not described
it’s easy to sort of label groups of
people like us and say well that’s
because they’re part of this subculture
or they’re not it’s a very emotive
subject that one love was fun and I love
the fishnets actually I love a girl who
wears a business this outfit here it’s
part of I needed a green shirt so it’s
our travel team shirt and then I just
got some short yellow shorts for bottoms
which are they were see-through so I had
to add some some other stuff to them we
have a very individual style
there’s been a sort of cookie cutter
people in terms of the style it’s it’s
kind of freeform there’s people who
really go out get it out in very very
athletic wear and other people who try
to be as tacky as possible don’t people
try to be sexy as possible and all those
things work very well together in order
to be it’s just great you walk in the
room there’s like you know there’s
people from the age of 19 to the age of
45 there’s different body sizes there’s
transgender players people with
different abilities and then there’s
this real sense of humor like they can
take themselves too seriously it’s
self-deprecating and that’s the most
admirable trait that I think that anyone
can have so it’s certainly grated to see
in a sports team some leaks had heard
about our sweet dance moves
not only our sweet roller derby moves
but also our sweet dance moves wftda
national tennis weekend and we’re the
were the the halftime show and then we
start like this we don’t start like this
like this yeah my show the bursary point
we always go to a different part of the
country we can do something quite often
kind of crazy and this is something we
wanted to do for a long time I learned
how to roller skate this morning
sometime I had a roller derby not a
roller derby girl

there’s just a general acceptance of all
sorts of different people as long as you
you know put your skates on a skater as
you can your your cool I am a normal
girl okay other than bashing the hell
out of a few girls a couple of times a
week I’m pretty normal so sort of a
down-and-dirty female empowering sport
