my name is Georgia W touch I was in
political science and I wanted something
in political but a bit cheeky Montreal
roller derby is known for being I guess
we could say we’re a bit rowdy we did a
dance number it went actually really
well I think our dance during the
halftime made people feel a little bit
better in our neon ridiculous selves
I am hurricane Hales my number is 74
miles per hour which is the speed
apparently that wind has to be 2 because
the hurricane you and what army I’m a
very little person so the idea of need
requiring an army to be defeated was a
little bit funny

which I was the chief wind speeds you
play a record at I don’t think there’s
one kind of derby girl but they’re all
very special
there’s doctors
tattoo artists accountants professors we
have people like librarian moms I have
watched Roller Girls on a knee and I
kept watching and going online and
checking to see when somebody was going
to start something in Montreal and as
soon as it started I was here I was
dying to do it I roller skated as a kid
and I was actually a professional dancer
and I got to roller skate on stage and a
ballet once I was like I am playing
roller derby so that was it

I’m a early childhood educator and a
nursery so I work for 40 hours a week
with babies that are a year old it has
nothing to do a roller derby it’s really
I have like my two my two sides

what makes me a roller derby girl well
I’m obviously not a typical athlete I’m
five four five something like about 180
pounds I guess this is why I have a big
farm I decided if I was invented for
this fall I just didn’t know it a little
while ago I started when I was young I
was 21 so I think it’s really giving me
a lot of life skills that maybe I didn’t
have before

I really like the imperfection of it my
whole life I had to do things and trying
to be perfect and ballet is very perfect
and and there’s something about crashing
and burning in roller derby that is I
think it’s great I’ve never been active
in my life it’s the first time I’m
actually doing a sport in my whole life
describe the best thing in my life I
think all these different kinds of
people come together to make teams and
make them effective
