Electronic Arts is shifting gears to
provide casual video game players with a
stylish arcade racing experience hi I’m
Rebecca Braden and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’re at the EA
studios to learn more about need for
speed nitro let’s start by having you
tell us more about need for speed nitro
the idea behind building need for speed
nitro is to build a game that is fun for
all kinds of gamers whether it’s the
five-year-old kid in the house or
whether it’s my wife whether it’s for me
why is EA decided to focus on the casual
gaming experience specifically for the
Nintendo consoles people that had played
when that you know pac-man growing up
they had found that video games have got
too complicated you know too many
buttons and so when Nintendo really did
was make him a very simple TV remote
interface what influenced your decision
to focus on this anime style versus
realism one of the things we wanted to
do is to make sure that the game runs at
a very fast framerate to give the sense
of speed and the type controls having an
optimized view or a stylized view
enables them to use less polygons on the
cars in the environments so the game can
run a fast speed and look great you
could kind of outline some of the unique
in game features and if speeds always
had this rich customization but it’s
always been you know moving these little
sliders and about precision so we wanted
to take that and put it onto the weed
remote and so it’s very easy you’d
rotate the remote it rotates the tag on
the car and you can use it like a spray
can there are over 30 real world cars
featured in the game can you outline a
few of those for us we have all the kind
of traditional muscle cars and exotic
cars that you’d expect in an FSB game
but we also have some more fun cars like
the VW westfalia van we wanted to create
dialogue between a father and the son
you know so maybe they say you know the
father who is driving with a classic car
the son is driving with a more modern
car can you tell us about the different
gameplay modes and also the role of the
police in the game the game has over
seven different race events or race
types in there you can either play it in
arcade mode where you just go in and
select the type of race that you want to
play or you can play in career mode
where you’re working through the five
cities one of the big things in the game
is obviously the cops because it’s a
street racing game and they’re not happy
about you racing in their city so in the
second lap the cops will come in well
hardcore gamers be able to enjoy this
feature as well well judging by the
reaction on the team definitely the game
is tuned for a broad variety of gamers
and we have these tuning speights so
that even someone that’s quite advanced
skill will be challenged very early on
thank you very much thank you
