if you live in a city that experiences
all four seasons then you considered
buying an all-wheel drive vehicle hi I’m
Randall Lightstone watchmojo.com and
today we’re gonna explore BMWs X Drive
all-wheel drive system with the new 550i
available on 21 at BMWs models is the
xDrive system basically that’s just a
fancy term for all-wheel drive the way
the system works is that on dry surfaces
the power is split 60/40 as soon as the
car detect the different type of surface
B it’s and gravel mud what have you the
power will be distributed accordingly so
let’s say your front wheel is flipping
it’ll take that power away and
distribute to the rest that still have
grit so you never feel slippage you
never feel like you’re out of control
so what I’m going to show you now is a
fast start in the BMW 550i X Drive this
is gonna demonstrate how the ABS kicks
on and how the xDrive system works to
push the vehicle forward even though
we’re on a very snowy wet slick surface
here my wheels are spinning a lot it’s
trying to find traction there was no lag
there was no pull back the car found
what it needed to find in the road and
it pushed itself forward
I had the throttle push down fairly hard
so I was trying to go faster but it
wasn’t actually pulling me back it
wasn’t holding me in place like most
cars the wheels were just spinning
you’re just gonna sit there when you’re
coming to a stop at the xDrive system
the way it works is initially the ABS is
gonna kick in if you’re slipping which
is great because abs pumps your brake
faster than you could ever do so let it
do its job
the beauty of having an all wheel drive
vehicle in the winter isn’t just all
about the grip you can have a little fun
on these cars too unlike a front-wheel
drive vehicle if you’d like to fishtail
around a corner or take on a bit more
spiritedly
all you have to do is give it a bit of
gas and it’ll fly around the corner
which is also known as drifting if
you’re a good driver and you enjoy being
behind the wheel this is a lot of fun in
the winter now in a car like this with
xDrive you have a lot of computer bits
working for you when you’re behind the
wheel so unfortunately when you go
around a corner quickly and you want to
kick out the back and drift your way
around a lot of times the power to the
wheels is cut now it’s not that the car
is braking or anything is going wrong
that’s a BMWs put in place to keep you
safe
it cuts power to the wheel so you slow
down and you stop sliding that’s called
dynamic traction control or DTC when you
turn the DTC off however you’re stopping
the computer from cutting the power to
your wheels which allows you to have a
bit more fun behind the wheel
now the DSC is off which means that it’s
not cutting power to my wheels which
means I have a lot more control about
how I’m turning the car how fast it’s
gonna spin how fast it’s gonna drift and
it keeps power all the time so
while clearly we reduced something a lot
of fun in an open snow-covered parking
lot but we did show you is the benefits
of a superior all-wheel drive system
like extract and if you have the cash to
drop on a BMW and you live in a snowy
climate like we do and I’d highly
recommend you purchasing a BMW with said
system
