grandmother of six is the first woman to
lead an African nation in modern history

Liberia was founded in 1822 by free
blacks from the United States on July 26
1847 the Republic of Liberia declared
its independence and modeled its
government after the United States

Archbishop of York of the Church of
England born in the Central African
country of Uganda cintamu is the
church’s second-highest cleric and the
first black Archbishop in the church’s
five hundred year history
