Basic Dog Commands: Come Here

hi I’m Frank of watchmojo.com and today
Jenny Souza will help us teach a command
that could one day save your dog’s life
so is it wishful thinking to think you
can have your dog come when he’s called
you know as with any other training you
do have to be consistent and you know
teach them what you want them to do but
if definitely you can definitely get any
dog to come what’s the process if the
only time you’ve ever called your dog is
to you know take a pill or cut his nails
or tie him back up on his leash you know
to leave the dog park then he’s gonna
associate ooh every time I need to go is
for a bad thing or for something that I
don’t want to do or to stop doing
something that was fun let them
associate coming to with being a
positive thing with being a reward call
them with an upbeat voice make it fun
for them to come to you give them a
little reward and when you’re learning
it’s most important thing is to keep
them on a leash while they’re learning
so you start with a short leash you just
get down to their level call them with
an upbeat voice facing you can run back
a little bit or show them a treat
anything to get them to come through and
as your goal through steps and they’re
learning to do this you extend the
length of leash you can go up to where
you’re 15 or 30 foot in the leash and
the idea is to you know with each length
of the leashes to get them still to come
back to you you also introduce
distractions so you have you know other
people in the area you have other people
with food or other dogs and ideas
always to come back to you maintaining
that throughout their life is also good
too so it’s not just while they’re
learning you make them come ten times a
day and then the rest of time you don’t
something as simple as you know even if
they look in your direction give them a
little smile let them know that anytime
they’re coming to you it’s a positive
thing thank you
